Remote Value Added Reseller information

What is a Remote Value Added Reseller?

A Remote Value Added Reseller (VAR) is a business or individual that sells products or services from other companies, typically technology or software, but adds their own features or services to enhance the offering. They operate remotely, meaning they conduct business online or from a location separate from the manufacturer's premises. Their added value can include installation, customization, consulting, technical support, or training. Remote VARs help customers get more tailored solutions while allowing manufacturers to reach broader markets. This model is popular in the IT and software industries.

How does a Remote Value Added Reseller typically collaborate with vendors and customers while working off-site?

Remote Value Added Resellers (VARs) rely heavily on digital communication tools to maintain strong relationships with both vendors and customers. They frequently coordinate with vendors to stay up-to-date on product offerings, negotiate pricing, and secure technical support, while also acting as a trusted advisor to customers by understanding their needs and recommending tailored solutions. Collaboration often involves regular video calls, virtual demos, and prompt email responses to ensure seamless project management and customer satisfaction. Strong organizational skills and proactive communication are key to success in this remote environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Value Added Reseller, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Value Added Reseller, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and business development skills, often supported by experience in technology or channel sales. Familiarity with CRM platforms, partner portals, and vendor certification programs (such as Microsoft or Cisco partner certifications) is frequently required. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities help differentiate top performers in this field. These competencies are vital for effectively identifying customer needs, customizing solutions, and driving successful partnerships in a competitive marketplace.
