Remote User Experience Designer information

What is a remote user experience designer?

Remote User Experience (UX) Designers are professionals who focus on improving the usability and accessibility of digital products, such as websites and mobile apps, while working from a remote location. They conduct user research, create wireframes and prototypes, and collaborate with other team members online to ensure a seamless user experience. Remote UX Designers use digital tools to communicate, gather feedback, and iterate on design solutions, making it possible to contribute effectively without being physically present in an office.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote user experience designer?

To thrive as a Remote User Experience Designer, you need proficiency in user research, information architecture, wireframing, and prototyping, often backed by a degree in design or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and usability testing platforms is typically required. Strong communication, collaboration, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for remote teamwork and stakeholder management. These competencies ensure the creation of intuitive, user-centered products while maintaining productivity and alignment across distributed teams.

How do remote user experience designers effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working from different locations?

Remote User Experience Designers often collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and researchers through digital tools such as video conferencing, collaborative whiteboards, and project management platforms. Regular communication, clear documentation, and structured feedback sessions are essential to ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals and design decisions. Building strong relationships virtually and proactively addressing time zone differences help maintain smooth workflows. This remote setup can foster diverse perspectives and flexibility, but it also requires excellent self-motivation and communication skills to overcome potential collaboration challenges.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology.

Come be a part of what's next. The Team At ECXD (Emerging Creative Experience Design), our mission is to craft multimedia experiences that blend motion, audio, visuals, and storytelling to amplify Netflix's brand, drive innovation, and inspire meaningful connections with global audiences and partners. We specialize in interaction, animation, cinematic UX, and engaging content-forward interfaces, working horizontally across products and platforms to create performant, intuitive, and delightful user experiences that immerse users, effectively convey information, and foster connections between Netflix, members, soon-to-be members, and B2B partners.

We are looking for a Product / Visual Design hybrid to join the team. In this role you will be responsible for a range of creative execution that requires a flexible skillset, including content-forward creative to UI feature design, and brand assets that live within the Netflix UI. All this creativity will be brought to life in partnership with teammates who specialize in Audio, Motion, and Video in the context of compelling Product storytelling.

At times, you will craft immersive, story-driven experiences expressed through aspirational product prototypes; at others, you will design intuitive, scalable experiences that seamlessly align with and extend our design systems. Across all work, you'll be expected to demonstrate exceptional visual craft while collaborating horizontally across teams and surfaces to envision and build product experiences that advance business goals while elevating the aesthetics and usability of the Netflix product experience. Your Impact: Visual design across TV, mobile, and web surfaces, spanning member and nonmember experiences.

Turn business goals into interfaces that delight, inform, and engage. Partner with motion, AV, and audio teams to integrate storytelling into interactions. Prototype and test high-fidelity concepts, from sketches and wireframes to vision videos and interactive prototypes.

Define scalable frameworks, style guides, and visual design systems that unify Netflix's product experiences. Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design Systems, and Research to ensure holistic experience quality. Deliver a variety of artifacts and storytelling mediums, including qual stimuli, mockups, videos, promotional concepts, and business storytelling presentations.

Must Have: A combination of Product Design and entertainment and/or Brand expertise. Ability to craft visionary UX concepts grounded in user needs with strategic thinking. Exceptional craft and attention to detail, with a passion for maintaining high quality.

Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, including video, audio, and motion graphics on a variety of creative artifacts. Experience to ship complex products by working within technical constraints, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving toward successful outcomes. Strong cross-discipline partnership skills, able to see the big picture strategically, bring pieces together, and drive clarity through ambiguity.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to articulate design decisions and strategy with influence. Proactive and self-starting, able to uncover and propose solutions independently. Ability to participate in and influence impactful design solutions across all phases of the product lifecycle.

In depth knowledge of Figma. Fluent with AI design tools-actively uses them to increase workflow efficiency and elevate design quality. Passion for entertainment, content-rich product, storytelling, and elevating creative experiences.

Bonus: Creative vision experience or strategic product roadmap. Strong prototyping skills using Figma Motion, Principle, ProtoPie, After Effects, Rive, and Lottie. Real-time tools (Unreal, Unity, WebGL).

Collaboration with design systems and design technology partners. Why You'll Love It Here Netflix is a home for creative excellence. ECXD offers a space where art and technology intersect, giving you freedom to push creative boundaries while shaping the future of multimedia design across the Netflix ecosystem.
