Hastings Insurance is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Technician to join our Commercial Underwriting team. If you have experience servicing commercial accounts, working with policy changes and coverage information, or supporting customers and producers in an agency or carrier environment, this role offers an opportunity to build on that experience while developing your underwriting expertise.

In this role, you'll review and process commercial business, make decisions within established underwriting authority, and partner with underwriters and independent agents to support an assigned territory. You'll play an important part in delivering responsive service to our agency partners while helping Hastings write sound, profitable commercial business.

What You'll Do:
  • Review, approve, and process commercial applications within assigned authority and underwriting guidelines.
  • Review and process commercial policy changes and endorsements within established authority.
  • Prepare policy changes requiring additional underwriting review or approval.
  • Partner with commercial underwriters to service an assigned territory and support profitable growth.
  • Communicate with agency partners to answer questions, gather information, and provide responsive, professional service.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines and established authority when reviewing commercial business.
  • Collaborate with fellow underwriting technicians, providing coverage and support across the team as needed.
  • Continue developing your commercial insurance and underwriting knowledge through hands-on experience, training, and professional development.
What You'll Bring:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Commercial lines insurance experience, preferably within an independent insurance agency, carrier, or similar insurance environment.
  • Experience servicing commercial accounts, processing policy changes or endorsements, or working with commercial insurance coverage and policy information.
  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance terminology, coverages, and policy structure.
  • Ability to assess and interpret underwriting guidelines, procedures, and established authority.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an engaging, customer-focused approach.
  • Comfort working with various insurance systems and standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • INS coursework, insurance designations, or other industry education preferred but not required.
Location & Schedule:

This is a full-time, salaried position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Commercial Underwriting Technician is primarily remote butย  requires approximately one in-office day per month at our Hastings headquarters. Candidates should reside within a reasonable driving distance of Hastings, Michigan.
