This is a Hybrid Work Eligible position. You may be required to come into the Marquette, MI office, our Operations Center in Berrien Springs, MI, or another local office closest to your location as needed to ensure business needs are met.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • Accountable for leading a team of Real Estate Underwriters to ensure accurate, thorough, and timely loan decisions.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and training to the Mortgage Underwriting Team.
  • Works with other internal stakeholders, discovers and enhances current operational processes.
  • Ensures the Mortgage Underwriting Team is well-versed on both Honor portfolio mortgage products and the secondary market. Makes sure secondary market loans adhere to underwriting criteria set forth by the investor and makes recommendations and approvals on portfolio loans.
  • Assures general adherence to mortgage requirements by staff training and research.
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative work environment for the entire Mortgage Department and Real Estate Underwriting Team.
  • Reviews complex or escalated underwriting issues and makes recommendations for decisioning or resolution.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Five to eight years of mortgage underwriting experience, with a minimum of two years of leadership experience.
  • Direct endorsement required.
  • Thorough understanding of mortgage regulations, underwriting guidelines, secondary market and FHA lending, and mortgage compliance requirements.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to keep finances in order.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills, well-organized and have an excellent eye for detail.
  • Handle issues with tact, diplomacy, and an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Understands and complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in using mortgage loan origination systems and related origination software.
