Remote Travel Trade involves working within the travel industry, often in roles related to sales, operations, or management for travel companies. Remote Travel Agents focus on assisting clients with bookings and travel arrangements directly. While both roles require travel industry knowledge, Remote Travel Trade positions are broader and more industry-focused, whereas Remote Travel Agents are customer service-oriented roles centered on client interactions.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in a remote travel trade role, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in remote travel trade roles often face challenges such as coordinating with global partners across different time zones, maintaining clear communication with clients and suppliers, and staying updated on rapidly changing travel regulations. To manage these challenges, it’s important to use collaborative tools for real-time updates, set clear expectations with stakeholders, and establish a structured workflow for tracking bookings and client requests. Regular virtual meetings and proactive communication can also help ensure smooth operations and strong relationships within the team and with external partners.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Travel Trade Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Travel Trade Specialist, you need comprehensive knowledge of travel industry products, destination expertise, and typically a background in hospitality or tourism. Familiarity with global distribution systems (GDS), booking platforms, and certifications such as IATA or ASTA are highly valued. Exceptional communication, client relationship management, and organizational skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure efficient travel arrangements, client satisfaction, and competitive service in a rapidly evolving, virtual marketplace.

What is a Remote Travel Trade professional?

A Remote Travel Trade professional is someone who works in the travel industry, helping to plan, coordinate, and sell travel products and services such as tours, accommodations, and transportation, all while working remotely. These professionals often liaise between travel suppliers (like hotels, airlines, and tour operators) and clients or agencies. Their role may include negotiating deals, managing bookings, and providing customer support. Working remotely allows them to operate from anywhere with internet access, offering flexibility while still delivering essential travel services.

From taking the first citizen explorers to Antarctica in 1966, opening the Galapagos and Easter Island to tourism in 1967, leading the first tourist expedition through the Northwest Passage in 1984, and launching our innovative partnership with National Geographic in 2004, we're now taking almost 30,000 guests a year to some of the world’s most remote and pristine locations on our fleet of 23 ships, and are committed to ensuring our guests experience the “Exhilaration of Discovery”.

JOB SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will have a proactive, solutions-driven and detail-oriented work ethic and lead exemplary professionalism with our internal and external teams. They will develop ideas to integrate leads, program innovations as well as grow and nurture our Travel Advisor audiences in the business.

Reporting directly to the Director of Trade Marketing, this role is designed for a rising marketing professional with the ambition and capability to grow into an Associate Manager position. Working cross-functionally with internal teams, including trade marketing, sales, expeditions, B2C marketing, and trade advertising, the coordinator helps ensure consistent, high-impact messaging for the travel trade.

Key areas of focus include consortia and strategic account marketing support, trade event coordination, educational webinars, social media content strategy and execution, lead-generating campaign support, and administrative tracking.

  • Help prepare engaging presentations tailored to advisor education and sales enablement

  • Coordinate with Exploration Leaders, Sales Leaders, and subject-matter experts as guest presenters

  • Manage logistics including briefing speakers, rehearsals, and technology setup

  • Track registrations, attendance, and engagement, providing detailed post-webinar reporting and recommendations

  • Grow to independently lead webinar programs as skills develop

Social Media & Content Strategy

  • Manage curation, scheduling, and execution of trade-facing social media content across LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram

  • Maintain the Trade Social Content Hub on a weekly basis, developing audience specific copy and images in alignment with the marketing calendar and sales initiatives

  • Ensure alignment with overall trade marketing campaigns and messaging.

  • Monitor trade engagement on social platforms and build/share monthly performance reports

  • Suggest ways to continually improve trade social media engagement

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Manage the processing and tracking of trade marketing invoices, purchase orders, and budget allocations

  • Maintain internal tracking documents, campaign calendars, and deliverables dashboards

  • Assist in compiling post-campaign or post-event recap reports and insights for internal use

  • Serve as a cross-functional point of contact for trade marketing, sales, expeditions, B2C, and legal teams

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • BA/BS required in Marketing, Business or related field or equivalent industry experience

  • 2–3+ years of experience in B2B and/or B2C marketing, events, social media, or related field, preferably in the travel industry. B2B experience a plus
