Overview

This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s): Arizona, North Carolina or Texas.

The Senior Manager – Workplace Collaboration & Content Management Engineering leads the strategy, architecture, and engineering delivery of enterprise collaboration and content platforms, with a primary focus on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams) and Microsoft Purview.

This role is accountable for building secure, compliant, and scalable collaboration experiences aligned to regulatory requirements, while enabling modern productivity and AI capabilities (including Microsoft Copilot). The leader will establish strong data governance, lifecycle management, and information protection practices to mitigate risks such as oversharing, data leakage, and non-compliant content handling.

This position operates within the Digital Workplace Technology organization and partners closely with Cybersecurity, Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Organizational Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team focused on collaboration platforms and content management
  • Set clear vision, priorities, and measurable outcomes aligned with Digital Workplace and enterprise strategy
  • Build talent capabilities in modern workplace engineering, information governance, and compliance technologies
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate across infrastructure, security, data, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Manage vendor relationships and strategic partnerships (Microsoft, third-party tools, compliance solutions)

Platform Engineering (M365 Collaboration Stack)

  • Own engineering and lifecycle management of:
    • SharePoint Online (sites, hubs, architecture)
    • OneDrive for Business
    • Microsoft Teams (content and file services layer)
  • Design and implement scalable information architecture, taxonomy, and metadata strategies
  • Establish advanced SharePoint management practices, including:
    • Site provisioning and lifecycle governance
    • Permissions and access control frameworks
    • External sharing governance and risk controls
  • Improve platform reliability, performance, and adoption through engineering standards and automation

Information Governance & Compliance Engineering (Purview)

  • Lead design and implementation of Microsoft Purview capabilities, including:
    • Data lifecycle management (retention, disposition, defensible deletion)
    • Records management and regulatory compliance controls
    • Data classification and sensitivity labeling
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies
    • Insider risk and information protection capabilities
  • Establish enterprise-wide data governance frameworks for collaboration content
  • Partner with Cybersecurity, Legal, Risk, and Compliance to translate regulatory obligations into technical controls
  • Ensure auditability and defensibility of content management practices

Data Security & Oversharing Risk Management (Copilot Readiness & Sustainment)

  • Define and implement controls to mitigate oversharing risks in SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams
  • Drive readiness for AI capabilities (e.g., Microsoft Copilot), including:
    • Data exposure assessments
    • Permission hygiene and remediation
    • Sensitive data discovery and protection
  • Implement least-privilege access models and continuous monitoring of access patterns
  • Develop reporting and insights for leadership on data risk posture

Content Lifecycle & Records Management

  • Establish end-to-end content lifecycle practices:
    • Creation, classification, storage, retention, archival, and destruction
  • Ensure automated and policy-driven retention and defensible destruction
  • Integrate lifecycle policies with business processes and regulatory schedules
  • Standardize document and records management practices across the enterprise

Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and maintain reference architectures for:
    • Collaboration services
    • Content management
    • Information governance and compliance
  • Drive consolidation of legacy platforms into modern M365 services
  • Ensure scalability, security, and sustainability of collaboration solutions
  • Continuously evaluate emerging capabilities, including AI and automation

Operational Excellence

  • Partner with operations teams to ensure smooth transition from engineering to run
  • Define SLAs, SLOs, and observability practices for collaboration platforms
  • Implement automation, monitoring, and self-service capabilities
  • Drive incident reduction and proactive risk management using a closed-loop approach

GENERAL DUTIES

  • IT Strategy - collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to understand business needs. Partners with senior management to develop and implement IT strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and objectives. 30%
  • Project and Product Management Oversight - Identifies future needs and trends. Provides direction and oversight to IT projects and products. Assigns project tasks, drives project schedules, product releases, and conveys results or updates to the appropriate parties. 30%
  • Managerial Functions - Establishes and monitors expectations to achieve company and department goals. Makes appropriate changes to IT policies, standards, procedures, and efficiencies to meet objectives. Manages the performance, training, and evaluation of assigned staff. Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development. Ensures bank needs are met through prioritization and resource allocation. 20%
  • Technical Expertise - Serves as a technical expert and strategic leader to senior management, associates, and business units. Ensures that team activities comply with all appropriate configuration, change controls, and security standards. Participates in business meetings and special projects to provide insight on end-user needs. Keeps abreast of industry trends. Identifies and holds accountable vendors in support of system updates and maintenance. 20%
