Position Summary:

The Director, Risk Control supports Arch Insurance's Large Account Construction business unit by managing risk control services and collaborating with underwriting to ensure appropriate risk selection, placement and renewal of profitable insurance. This is a senior level, individual contributor role providing expert construction risk control consultation services through assessing construction-related risks, developing strategic risk control strategies, and collaborating with stake holders to implement risk improvement efforts.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Partner with Construction Underwriting to prequalify, evaluate, and assess construction risks

  • Provide expert analysis of workers' compensation, general liability, and auto liability exposures

  • Review loss history and identify trends, atypical claims, and catastrophic exposure drivers

  • Develop and deliver consultative risk control strategies to reduce loss frequency and severity

  • Conduct strategic services including loss analyses, contractual risk transfer reviews, fleet risk management, and managementlevel training

  • Collaborate with Claims and service partners to integrate risk control and claims strategies

  • Support new business development, renewals, and key broker and client relationships

  • Participate in construction industry associations and marketfacing activities

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of construction operations, delivery systems, contracts, and contractual risk transfer

  • Experience across general building, heavy civil/highway, and specialty trades

  • General liability exposures and controls, including QA/QC programs, subcontractor prequalification, work zone liability, and defect prevention

  • Strategic, consultative mindset with a proven ability to influence underwriting and client decision making

  • Strong collaborator capable of partnering internally with Underwriting and Claims and externally with brokers, producers, and client risk teams

  • Proven ability to influence underwriting decisions through clear, professional risk assessments

  • Willingness to travel up to 25 - 40%

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in risk control, construction safety, and/or risk management (insurance carrier experience preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ARM, CRIS, or similar are

    preferred, but not required

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

For San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego: $160,000 - $175,000/year
For Chicago, Denver, St. Paul: $150,000 - $165,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
