Project Overview
Asarco has initiated an extensive, multi-year expansion of both the Concentrator and Tailings Storage Facility, with a total investment valued in billions of dollars. This project which started in 2024 will continue till 2030 after project execution and closure
Position Summary
ASARCO is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to lead and oversee all construction activities for the project portfolio.
Reporting to the Project Director, the Senior Construction Manager serves as a key member of the Owner's team and provides leadership and governance across all construction work fronts. The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of construction activities in alignment with approved scope, schedule, budget, and regulatory requirements.
This position works closely with the Engineering Manager, Project Controls, EP/CM contractors, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and Commissioning teams to ensure seamless integration between design, construction, and operational readiness.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage the construction team ensuring consistent adherence to codes, standards, and best practices across the project work fronts.
  • Conduct constructability reviews of designs, so as to optimize construction duration and ensure safety during construction.
  • Direct and review the construction activities to ensure that work quality is satisfactory and meets company objectives and adhere to international and local standards
  • Collaborate with the EP/CM teams, site operations, site maintenance, site technical teams, third party consultants and other internal and external service providers.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager and collaborate with the EP/CM teams.
  • Ensure appropriate operational engagement in project execution focusing on change management and performance assurance.
  • Provide operational implementation support for new designs, ensuring appropriate system performance, development of best practices and documentation.
  • Lead a team of construction coordinators/supervisors through influence and mentorship, engaging across various levels and groups within Asarco, to drive good practice for project management.
  • Guide project-level construction deliverable and task development adhering to packaging best practices. Ensure engineering budgets meet the scope and execution plan for the project.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to expedite and track progress for activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Contribute to project construction risk assessments, HAZOPs, design reviews, value optimizations, and construction reviews guiding inputs. Raise safety awareness and ensure the corporate design for safety principles are applied to the project.
  • Present updates to project sponsors and external business partners as needed.

What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering or a related technical discipline, with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in construction management within heavy industrial or mining capital projects; OR
  • High school diploma with a minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in large-scale industrial construction management.

Required Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-discipline construction activities.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, field execution strategies, and contractor governance.
  • Experience overseeing construction supervisors and contractors within heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven leadership ability with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of safety systems and regulatory compliance in construction environments.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic project setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Results-driven with strong organizational and execution capabilities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in metal mining operations, including familiarity with hydrometallurgy and concentrating processes.
  • Experience working within EPC/EPCM delivery models.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting mechanical completion and commissioning handover.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement improved construction methods and execution strategies.
