POSITION SUMMARY
Barton Malow is seeking a Sr. Construction Manager to support a large-scale thermal energy project in New Albany, Ohio. This leadership role is responsible for overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of complex thermal/mechanical construction scopes including boilers, turbines, heat recovery systems, piping, structural steel, and balance-of-plant systems.
The Sr. Construction Manager will lead project engineers, superintendents, field staff, and subcontractors to safely execute construction activities in accordance with contract documents, budget, schedule, and quality requirements. This position plays a critical role in ensuring successful startup and commissioning of thermal generation assets while maintaining Barton Malow's commitment to safety and operational excellence.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead overall site construction strategy and execution for thermal power generation scopes.
  • Oversee development of Installation Work Packages (IWPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and work sequencing for mechanical, structural, electrical, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Direct and manage subcontractor scope development, coordination, logistics planning, and installation sequencing for complex industrial systems.
  • Monitor self-perform and subcontractor performance including productivity tracking, earned value management, and cost control.
  • Ensure all work is executed in strict accordance with contract documents, engineering drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Drive adherence to the master construction schedule, including critical path management and milestone achievement.
  • Proactively resolve field conflicts, technical challenges, labor constraints, and constructability issues.
  • Collaborate with Project Management and Project Controls to forecast labor productivity, cost trends, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and turnover processes to operations.
  • Champion a strong safety culture aligned with Barton Malow's safety-first commitment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • 10+ years of relevant construction experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role on large-scale industrial or energy projects.
  • Experience supporting thermal power, combined cycle, cogeneration, district energy, or other heavy industrial mechanical projects strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing mechanical systems installation including piping, turbines, boilers, heat exchangers, or similar process equipment.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary construction teams including superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and craft labor.
  • Strong understanding of industrial construction scheduling, sequencing, and critical path management.
  • Experience with productivity tracking, earned value management, and cost forecasting.
  • OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented leader with strong communication skills and a commitment to safety excellence.
