This is a remote role that is based within the East Coast region.
Key Responsibilities

  • Own design for medium-to-large product areas or workflows, from problem definition through delivery.
  • Translate complex requirements, data, and constraints into clear, intuitive, and scalable user experiences.
  • Design digital interfaces including dashboards, data visualizations, and system-driven UI patterns.
  • Create wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and interactive prototypes to communicate intent and validate solutions.
  • Learn, explore and leverage new technologies to extend, expand and accelerate your performance, but know when to move slow to move fast.

Collaboration & Delivery
  • Partner closely with product managers and engineers to shape solutions, define scope, and iterate throughout development.
  • Participate actively in agile ceremonies; adapt design approaches mid-sprint as constraints and insights evolve.
  • Support quality assurance during and after sprints to ensure design intent is implemented accurately.
  • Communicate design rationale and intent clearly through documentation, specs, and async artifacts.

Design Systems & Craft
  • Leverage Carrier's digital design system to work efficiently and consistently.
  • Apply system components appropriately and identify gaps or opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain product-level design patterns and libraries where needed.
  • Contribute feedback and recommendations that strengthen system adoption and coherence.

Research & Problem Solving
  • Partner with researchers to participate in discovery, usability testing, and validation.
  • Apply customer insights and data to guide decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Balance user needs, technical feasibility, and business priorities in day-to-day design decisions.

Influence & Mentorship
  • Be a force multiplier by raising the quality of design through critique, collaboration, and example.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to more junior designers on craft, process, and problem-solving.
  • Influence cross-functional partners through strong design thinking, communication, and follow-through.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 + years of product design experience working on digital products, including web and mobile platforms/applications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Design, HCI, Interaction Design) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing complex or enterprise-scale software.
  • Strong understanding of visual design fundamentals (color, typography, layout, hierarchy).
  • Proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools (Figma required; AI tool experience and curiosity).
  • Working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React) to inform design decisions.
  • Proven ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI with clear rationale.
  • Experience working across different organizational contexts (startup, agency, enterprise).
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating product thinking, design craft, and problem-solving impact is required.
  • Strong collaborator with experience working on agile, cross-functional product teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive design work with moderate ambiguity.
  • High bar for visual design, interaction design, and attention to detail.
  • Solid systems thinking with experience applying and contributing to design systems.
  • Comfortable challenging assumptions and proposing new approaches with tact and clarity.
  • Ability to communicate design intent and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Curious, growth-oriented mindset with openness to feedback and iteration.
