Remote Telecom Expense Management information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Telecom Expense Management professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Telecom Expense Management professional, you need a solid understanding of telecommunications billing, financial analysis, and contract management, typically supported by experience in telecom or finance. Familiarity with telecom expense management (TEM) platforms, Excel, and data analysis tools is crucial, and certifications like CTEM can be advantageous. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are important soft skills for ensuring accurate expense tracking and vendor negotiations. These skills ensure cost optimization, compliance, and efficient management of telecom services for organizations.

What is remote telecom expense management?

Remote telecom expense management (TEM) refers to the process of managing and optimizing an organization's telecommunications costs, assets, and services from a remote location. This involves tracking usage, auditing invoices, identifying billing errors, and negotiating contracts without the need for on-site presence. Remote TEM specialists use software and cloud-based tools to analyze data, ensure compliance, and recommend cost-saving measures for phone, internet, and mobile services. The goal is to reduce unnecessary expenses and streamline telecom operations for businesses.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote Telecom Expense Management role, and how can they be addressed?

In a remote Telecom Expense Management (TEM) role, professionals often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of billing data from multiple carriers, ensuring timely dispute resolution, and maintaining clear communication with internal teams and vendors. These challenges can be addressed by leveraging specialized TEM software, establishing standardized processes, and actively collaborating via digital tools to track issues and share updates. Strong organizational skills and proactive communication are key to overcoming these obstacles and ensuring cost savings and compliance for the organization.

Job description

Description
LaunchCode is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the full scope of our financial operations. This is a senior, high-trust role that combines direct execution of complex financial work with formal leadership over a team of finance staff. The ideal candidate brings both technical depth and operational discipline. They are equally comfortable resolving a multi-state payroll tax issue, coordinating an external audit, and clearing a high volume of AP approvals, often on the same day. They are a calm, clear communicator who earns the trust of staff, leadership, and external partners alike.
Specifics
  • Full-Time Salaried Position
  • Reports to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000
  • Fully Remote - ideal candidate is located in the Greater St. Louis, MO area
  • Manages accounting staff

Role Responsibilities
  • Program Financial Operations: Oversee AR for job placement revenue, donations, grant invoicing, bill rate controls, and SOW/MSA review for employer clients.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop budget vs. actual reporting, support grant budget revisions, and maintain a recurring operational finance cadence with leadership.
  • Multi-State Payroll & Tax Compliance: Manage payroll cycles, retroactive corrections, garnishments, multi-jurisdictional tax filings, and state agency correspondence.
  • Accounts Payable & Expense Management: Serve as final approver for all vendor payments, corporate card transactions, and benefits-related disbursements. Design and maintain AP workflow infrastructure.
  • Accounting & Month-End Close: Lead monthly close across multiple legal entities - bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and complex revenue recognition determinations.
  • Annual Audit & Regulatory Fillings: Primary internal contact for financial statement and annual audits. Prepare all schedules, manage auditor requests, and oversee project management.
  • Vendor & Contract Management: Own the SaaS/vendor renewal lifecycle and draft or finalize MSAs and contractor agreements for employer partners and independent contractors.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior individual contributor or people leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll for a multi-state employer, including corrections, tax compliance, and platform administration
  • Proficiency with a cloud-based accounting platform (QuickBooks or equivalent), a bill payment platform, and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience coordinating external financial statement audits, including direct preparation of audit schedules during testing
  • Experience managing multi-state payroll tax filings and responding to state agency correspondence
  • Strong process design and documentation skills with a track record of building or improving financial workflows

Nice to haves
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit organization, including grant accounting, restricted fund management, and Form 990 coordination
  • Experience drafting or reviewing Master Service Agreements, Statements of Work, or vendor and client contracts
  • Prior exposure to multi-entity accounting environments and government grant invoicing
