Job description

Apogee Architectural Metals

Position Summary

The Architectural Engineer role will promote and sell aluminum building products to architects, specifiers, consultants, and designers by providing technical expertise and building client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Member of the regional leadership team who supports the achievement of the financial goals of the organization at the regional level.
  • Responsible for driving architectural promotion of Metals' products and services within the assigned region to increase brand specification presence.
  • Maintain regular contacts with key influencers as appropriate within the assigned region.
  • Maintain technical aptitude and appropriate industry knowledge to assist in raising Metals/Apogee's understanding of market dynamics and key emerging trends within the industry.
  • Field general architectural inquiries from Metals' website.
  • Prospect in ConstructConnect and other lead services and "cold call" to generate new project opportunities.
  • Enter new project opportunities into Salesforce, notifying sales of the new opportunity, and tracking design phases through bidding.
  • Represent Metals' and/or Apogee in appropriate and designated trade or professional organizations (e.g., AIA, CSI, etc.).

Strategic Business Development

  • Develop and utilize internal and external resources to communicate current product and service offerings to capitalize on and leverage competitive advantage in the market fully.
  • Assess competitive and market situations and help develop short-term and long-term regional growth strategies.
  • Develop and present AIA/CES or other continuing education courses to architects, consultants, or other audiences.
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain Metals' company relationships with key architects, specifiers, and consultants.
  • Develop tools to facilitate effective promotion.
  • Support the proactive management of the project pipeline in the assigned region. This includes lead follow-through from design stages.

Project Support (in conjunction with Applications Engineers)

  • Review schematic architectural drawings and specifications to lead product selection, design, and applications engineering efforts in early project stages.
  • Deliver specifications and design details for architects and consultants in support of architectural promotion.
  • Preliminary assessment of thermal, structural, and acoustic compliance with company and industry guidelines, as well as state and federal codes or regulations.
  • Participate as required in Plans & Specs Estimating bid strategy meetings for delivered project pursuits.

Experience & Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Understanding of CRM software functionality
  • Understanding of construction, architectural, and engineering terminology
  • 3-D visualization
  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities and meet established milestones and deadlines
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Team and consensus building
  • Ability to prepare professional presentations; public speaking skills

Work Environment

  • Mostly an office environment (main office or remote) with travel as required.

Travel Requirements

33% - one trip every three weeks or more as needed per quarter, plus 2-3 times a year additional for corporate training, regional or national sales meetings, etc.
