What is a remote technical records professional?

Remote Technical Records typically refer to the management and maintenance of technical documentation and records for equipment, machinery, or aircraft, performed remotely rather than onsite. This role involves ensuring that all records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant regulations or standards. Professionals in this field may use specialized software to track maintenance, repairs, and inspections, and often collaborate with engineers, technicians, or regulatory bodies. The position is crucial for organizations that need to maintain detailed records for safety, compliance, and operational efficiency, especially in industries like aviation.

Remote Technical Records professionals play a crucial role in collaborating with maintenance teams by regularly communicating through digital platforms, such as email, video calls, and specialized maintenance tracking systems. They are responsible for collecting, verifying, and updating technical documentation from various sources, ensuring all records meet regulatory and company standards. Close coordination with engineering and maintenance staff is essential, as discrepancies or missing information must be promptly addressed to maintain compliance and operational efficiency. The remote aspect often requires strong organizational and communication skills to manage documentation workflows and support teams across multiple sites.

Experience developing or revising technical manuals, maintenance procedures, logistics plans, lifecycle-support documents, SOPs, technical reports, or training-support materials.

Ability to analyze complex technical information and convert it into clear, accurate, and usable documentation.

Experience coordinating technical reviews and resolving comments with engineers, logisticians, maintainers, trainers, and other subject matter experts.

Experience managing document revisions, approvals, configuration control, and controlled release processes.

Strong writing, editing, proofreading, research, and information-organization skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

Ability to manage multiple documents, priorities, reviews, and deadlines within a part-time schedule.

Desired Experience:

Familiarity with SAE GEIA-STD-0007 and military technical-publication standards such as MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD-3048, or S1000D.

Experience using Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, XML-authoring tools, graphics applications, or comparable technical-publishing software.

Familiarity with engineering drawings, Illustrated Parts Breakdowns, maintenance-task analysis, provisioning information, and Technical Data Packages.
