What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote technical product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Product Manager, you need a solid background in product management, technical proficiency (often with a degree in computer science or related field), and experience guiding products from concept to launch. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, Agile methodologies, and sometimes certifications like Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are commonly expected. These abilities ensure seamless project execution, alignment with business goals, and successful product outcomes in a remote work environment.

What is a remote technical product manager?

A Remote Technical Product Manager is a professional who oversees the development and success of technology-driven products while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They are responsible for defining product requirements, collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams, and ensuring that the product meets user needs and business goals. Their technical background enables them to bridge the gap between technical teams and stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and efficient decision-making. Remote Technical Product Managers leverage digital tools to coordinate work, manage timelines, and keep everyone aligned, regardless of where team members are located.

The Remote Technical Product Manager focuses on technical aspects, working closely with engineering teams to develop and deliver products. The Remote Product Owner primarily manages the product backlog and ensures the development aligns with business goals. While both roles require product management skills, the Technical Product Manager emphasizes technical knowledge, whereas the Product Owner concentrates on stakeholder communication and backlog prioritization.

How do remote technical product managers effectively coordinate with cross-functional teams across different time zones?

Remote Technical Product Managers often work with globally distributed teams, which can present challenges in communication and collaboration. To address this, they typically leverage a combination of asynchronous tools (like project management software and shared documentation) and schedule regular check-ins that accommodate overlapping work hours. Building strong relationships through clear communication and setting expectations around availability helps ensure that project milestones are met. Additionally, successful remote PMs proactively share updates and encourage feedback to keep everyone aligned, despite geographic separation.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly collaborative, technically fluent Technical Product Manager who thrives operating both strategically and in the weeds. This is a player/coach role for someone who can help define long-term product direction while actively driving day-to-day execution across engineering, implementation, and client delivery teams.
You will work closely with the VP of Product to shape product strategy, roadmap, and platform evolution. You will also serve as a critical bridge between client-facing teams and development - ensuring that customer needs translate into scalable, high-quality product capabilities.
This role requires someone who champions user experience, understands complex recruiting workflows, and is comfortable working across React-based front-end applications, Ruby-based back-end systems, AI initiatives, and integration-heavy environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Direction
  • Partner with the VP of Product to define and refine product vision, roadmap, and strategic priorities
  • Translate business objectives and customer needs into actionable product initiatives
  • Balance innovation, scalability, and operational excellence in roadmap planning
  • Define clear product outcomes and measurable success metrics (KPIs, adoption, engagement, performance, revenue impact)
Product Execution & Delivery
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle from discovery and requirements through release and iteration
  • Write detailed product requirements documents (PRDs), user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog, balancing new feature development, client-driven enhancements, and technical debt
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to clarify scope, remove blockers, and ensure on-time delivery
  • Participate actively in sprint planning, grooming sessions, stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Participate in release testing, QA validation, and post-release monitoring to ensure product quality
  • Support release management for updates, enhancements, and new feature rollouts
User Experience Leadership
  • Champion intuitive, efficient, and scalable user experiences across the platform
  • Collaborate with design and engineering to refine workflows and reduce friction
  • Advocate for usability best practices within recruiting and CRM workflows
  • Use customer feedback, data, and usage analytics to inform UX improvements
Technical & Platform Collaboration
  • Work closely with development teams across React (front-end) and Ruby (back-end) environments
  • Contribute to API and integration strategy, including third-party systems
  • Help prioritize and address technical debt while maintaining development velocity
  • Understand system architecture well enough to make informed trade-off decisions
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as the primary product liaison to Client Delivery and Implementation teams
  • Translate real-world client implementation challenges into scalable product improvements
  • Support complex integration projects and enterprise client requirements
  • Align stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success
Required Qualifications:
  • Must have a completed Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • 5+ years of product management experience in a SaaS or technology environment
  • Experience in recruitment technology, HR tech, ATS, CRM, or talent acquisition platforms strongly preferred
  • Experience working on products built with React and Ruby preferred
  • Experience with AI/ML-enabled features or automation initiatives preferred
  • Strong background in integrations and APIs
  • Proven experience managing product backlogs and agile development processes
  • Experience defining and tracking product KPIs and success metrics
  • Be able to travel up to 10% of the year

Skills & Competencies
  • Player/coach mentality - comfortable setting strategy while actively executing
  • Strong technical fluency; able to engage deeply with engineers on implementation details
  • Data-driven decision maker with a focus on measurable outcomes
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and stakeholder management abilities
  • Customer-obsessed with a strong user experience mindset
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving, evolving environments

What We Offer:
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • 2, 1-week shutdowns per year
  • Paid holidays
  • Company paid medical, dental & vision insurance
  • Strong work-life balance
