What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Technical Drawing specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Drawing specialist, you need proficiency in drafting principles, spatial visualization, and a relevant qualification such as a degree or certificate in engineering, architecture, or design. Familiarity with industry-standard CAD software (like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit) and digital collaboration tools is essential. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication skills help ensure accuracy and facilitate teamwork across remote environments. These competencies are crucial for delivering precise technical drawings that support engineering or architectural projects and for maintaining productivity in a virtual setting.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote technical drawing roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote technical drawing professionals often encounter challenges such as effective communication with team members, managing version control for design files, and ensuring clarity of specifications. These issues can be addressed by using collaborative design software, establishing clear file-naming conventions, and maintaining regular virtual meetings to discuss project updates. Staying proactive in seeking feedback and clarifying requirements with engineers and architects also helps in minimizing misunderstandings and ensuring accurate deliverables.

What is remote technical drawing?

Remote technical drawing involves creating precise and detailed diagrams, blueprints, or schematics of objects, structures, or systems using specialized software, while working from a location outside of a traditional office or on-site environment. This job typically requires strong skills in CAD (computer-aided design) programs and a solid understanding of engineering or architectural principles. Remote technical drawing professionals collaborate with teams and clients virtually to deliver accurate and up-to-date drawings for manufacturing, construction, or engineering projects. The flexibility of working remotely allows for greater work-life balance and the ability to contribute to projects from anywhere.

What is the difference between Remote Technical Drawing vs Remote CAD Drafting?

AspectRemote Technical DrawingRemote CAD Drafting

Job description

Why Join Us?

Altronic, LLC is a recognized leader in the design and manufacture of ignition systems, engine controls, and electrical control panels for the Oil and Gas industry. With decades of engineering expertise and a long-standing reputation for quality and innovation, we are committed to delivering exceptional solutions to our customers worldwide.

Based in Girard, Ohio, we employ approximately 220 dedicated professionals, boasting an average tenure of 16 years. This remarkable level of experience and loyalty reflects our strong workplace culture and long-standing commitment to quality, innovation, and employee development.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer to join our team. This is a customer-facing role supporting Altronic products across the full product line, including ignition, fuel, and control systems used primarily in natural gas compression and engine applications.

You will be the technical resource customers and distributors turn to for product selection, troubleshooting, and field support. The work is largely remote, with travel to customer and field sites for commissioning and on-site support as needed. Your knowledge directly affects how well our products run in the field and how satisfied our customers are.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide remote technical support to customers and distributors troubleshooting Altronic ignition,
fuel, and control systems.
• Work from electrical schematics, drawings, and sequence of operations to diagnose and resolve
field issues.
• Recommend the right Altronic products to fit each customer's application.
• Support startup and commissioning of control systems, ignition systems, and air/fuel ratio (AFR) systems on gas compression and engine packages.
• Interface Altronic controls with engine and driver controls common to gas compression (Cat, ADEM, Waukesha ESM, Murphy EICS, VFDs).
• Configure Altronic and third-party control systems, with enough understanding of the underlying programming and scripting to support them.
• Document support activity and feed recurring issues back to engineering and product teams.
• Coordinate with inside sales, panel engineering, production, and new product engineering on customer solutions.
• Travel to customer and field sites for on-site support and commissioning as needed.

Qualifications
• Significant field experience with industrial gas engines, compressors, and pumps.
• A hands-on background that combines mechanical and controls experience in the gas combustion industry.
• Working knowledge of control systems for gas compression, including ignition systems, AFR systems, and automated field operations.
• Knowledge of basic electronics, AC and DC, relay logic, analog signals (4-20 mA and 0-5 V), and discrete signals.
• Ability to read and work from electrical schematics.
• Strong communication skills to support customers remotely and troubleshoot from drawings.
• Comfortable using a PC and the software tools used to configure and support our control systems.
• Basic understanding of communication formats and protocols (RTU, TCP, HTTP).
• An ambitious self-starter who takes initiative and works well without close supervision.
A formal engineering degree is welcome but not required; equivalent field experience is also
acceptable.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of industry-standard compressor control platforms.
• Familiarity interfacing engine and driver controls common to gas compression: Cat ADEM III and IV,
Waukesha ESM I and II, Murphy EICS, and VFDs.
• Familiarity with the Altronic product line, or the ability to learn it quickly on the job.
• Experience with Lua scripting.

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package and full benefits including:
• Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
• Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
• Short- & Long-Term Disability
• Life Insurance
• Paid Time Off: Vacation, Holidays, Sick Leave, Parental Leave
• Tuition Reimbursement
• 401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match
