Senior Technical Writer

WORK LOCATION: Hanscom AFB, MA

JOB STATUS: Full-time; salaried

CLEARANCE: MUST have an active Top Secret clearance at time of hire

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Writer located at the Hanscom AFB in Bedford Massachusetts providing support to the Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management Division (C3BM).

Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM) has been tasked with delivering an integrated Department of the Air Force (DAF) Battle Network providing resilient decision advantage and enabling the USAF, USSF, Joint, and Coalition Force to win against the pacing challenge. C3BM supports execution in many different focus areas.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
  • Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret level clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Education: Bachelors degree

  • Years’ experience: 10+ years of experience, with at least five years supporting DoD programs

  • Technical Skills:
    • Technical writing experience supporting DoD information systems and/or business systems environments
    • Experience developing and editing technical documentation, requirements documents, technical papers, and engineering artifacts
    • Ability to work with technical content related to software systems, products, tools, and services
    • Knowledge of learning, configuring, deploying, integrating, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting software systems
    • Experience with authoring, development, and design tools such as GitLab, Markdown, JavaScript, Figma, Lucid, and website maintenance platforms
    • Knowledge management, information architecture, content design, and content strategy experience
    • Configuration management and document control experience
    • Ability to create professional-quality technical products from complex engineering content.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
    • Strong command of the English language, including grammar and usage
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
    • Ability to work effectively with engineers and understand complex technical content
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
    • Ability to communicate effectively with personnel from diverse technical and professional backgrounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides the opportunity to support some of the Air Force's most critical Command and Control modernization efforts. Working closely with systems engineers and program leadership, you will transform complex technical content into professional, high-quality products that support decision-making, system development, and mission execution across the DAF Battle Network.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Obtain, analyze, and organize technical information from multiple sources to develop clear and accurate documentation.
  • Determine the most logical and effective structure, sequence, length, and tone of technical documentation based on the audience and intended use.
  • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including requirements documents, design reference missions, technical point papers, user guides, instruction manuals, policies, procedures, and related materials.
  • Collaborate with engineers, program managers, customer representatives, and other stakeholders to establish technical specifications and document requirements.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, mockups, product samples, and engineering artifacts to ensure documentation accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, forms, and other supporting materials for technical publications and presentations.
  • Ensure documentation complies with required formats, standards, and configuration management processes.
  • Maintain consistency of language, terminology, and formatting across multiple documents and products.
  • Create tables of contents, citations, references, and supporting documentation as required.
  • Support review cycles by incorporating feedback from managers, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain electronic libraries of approved documents, presentations, and associated records.
  • Update and revise documentation as requirements, systems, and program needs evolve.
  • Support development of technical direction for product announcements, marketing materials, specifications, and related communications.
  • Prepare materials for publication and distribution.
