As of Jun 24, 2026, the average hourly pay for remote pump design engineer in the United States is $57.72, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $42.07 and $73.32 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do Remote Pump Design Engineers typically collaborate with manufacturing and field teams to ensure successful implementation of their designs?

Remote Pump Design Engineers frequently work closely with manufacturing and field service teams through virtual meetings, design reviews, and detailed documentation. They use CAD models, simulation results, and technical specifications to communicate design intent and address manufacturability or installation concerns. Regular collaboration helps resolve issues early, ensures designs meet real-world requirements, and fosters a cohesive workflow despite the remote setup. Utilizing project management and communication platforms is essential for maintaining effective teamwork and project progress.

What is the difference between Remote Pump Design Engineer vs Pump Maintenance Technician?

AspectRemote Pump Design EngineerPump Maintenance Technician
CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, relevant certificationsTechnical diploma or certification in pump maintenance or related field
Work EnvironmentDesign offices, remote collaboration, project planningOn-site at facilities, troubleshooting, repairs
Industry UsageDesign and development of pump systems for various industriesMaintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of pumps in industrial settings

The Remote Pump Design Engineer focuses on designing and developing pump systems, often working remotely with CAD tools and project teams. In contrast, the Pump Maintenance Technician handles on-site repairs and maintenance of pumps. Both roles require technical knowledge, but their daily tasks and work environments differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Pump Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Pump Design Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, and pump system design, often supported by a relevant engineering degree and experience in pump projects. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), simulation tools, and industry standards or certifications (like ASME or ISO) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills, especially for remote collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure precise and innovative pump designs, efficient workflow in remote settings, and successful project outcomes.

What does a Remote Pump Design Engineer do?

A Remote Pump Design Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing pump systems, typically for industries such as oil and gas, water treatment, or manufacturing. Working remotely, they use specialized software to create pump models, select materials, and ensure systems meet performance and safety standards. They collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams virtually, providing technical support and troubleshooting as needed. Their role also involves preparing documentation and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

In this dynamic role, you will be at the forefront of designing and developing satellite components and systems, leveraging your expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering. Your work will directly contribute to advancing space technology, ensuring precision, reliability, and efficiency in satellite design.

This position offers the flexibility of remote work while engaging with cutting-edge projects that push the boundaries of aerospace engineering. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about space exploration and engineering excellence, this opportunity is perfect for you!
Responsibilities
CAD Design & Modeling: Create detailed 3D mechanical designs and assemblies for spacecraft components using SolidWorks.
Thermal Control System (TCS) Design: Design and implement passive and active thermal solutions, including radiated cooled panels (radiators), multi-layer insulation (MLI), heat pipes, and thermal coatings.
Environmental Testing: Plan and execute Thermal Vacuum (TVAC), vibration, and shock testing to validate hardware against mission requirements.
Systems Integration: Define mechanical and thermal interfaces (ICDs) and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, propulsion, avionics) to ensure seamless subsystem integration.
Documentation: Maintain Bill of Materials (BOM), create manufacturing drawings, and generate thermal analysis reports for design reviews.
*
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (Master's or Ph.D. preferred for senior roles).
Experience: Typically 8+ years in spacecraft mechanical/thermal design, with specific expertise in Satellites
Software Proficiency:
o CAD: Advanced SolidWorks experience is essential, including large assembly management.
Technical Knowledge:
o Deep understanding of heat transfer principles (conduction and radiation dominant in vacuum).
o Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Preferred Skills
Experience with advanced cooling technologies like loop heat pipes or mechanically pumped fluid loops.
