Pay: The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant work experience, the skills required for the role, internal equity, market competitiveness, and budget considerations. Job Summary:
Under immediate supervision of the Controller, the Grant Accountant performs a wide variety of functions. The Grant Accountant is responsible for developing and implementing accounting systems for use in the recording and reporting of grants obtained. This position is responsible for performing various accounting tasks, such as balancing ledgers, analyzing expenditures and documenting, verifying and correcting entries in the general ledger system. This position will assist in maintaining strong financial controls to guarantee compliance with federal/state rules and regulations and to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The Grant Accountant will work closely with the Advancement and Development areas and work under the direction of the Finance Manager. The Grant Accountant is an advocate in implementing our mission "Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all." They may perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Individuals should possess a bachelor's degree in accounting with 3-5 years of accounting experience preferably in a not-for-profit and in grant accounting.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PC based and automated accounting systems and advanced experience with excel (v=lookups, Pivot tables, etc.)
  • Ability to manage detailed work and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to lead meetings and present financial information to Program management and executive staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly contract/grant financials with supporting schedules.
  • Prepare semi-annual/annual closing reports for contracts/grants as well as other regulatory reports as needed.
  • Reconcile grant receivables and deferred grant revenue on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor actual grant expenditures against approved budget line items on a monthly basis, alert management to any irregularities and make recommendations concerning the re-negotiation of approved grant line items.
  • Document, verify, and correct monthly journal entries in the general ledger Accounting System.
  • Implement grant tracking/monitoring system, ensuring all relevant grant information is accessible on a timely basis.
  • Prepare financial reports for grant funding agencies.
  • Control financial reports submitted for each memorandum of agreement. This function includes reviewing of financial reports for accuracy, ensuring timely receipt of financial reports, maintaining proper files for all financial reports submitted.
  • Maintain and track grant draw downs and reported expenditures for federal, state, and private programs by sub-recipient and by funding sources.
  • Work with Controller and Finance Manager to respond to external auditor for confirmations of expenditures and payments to sub grantees.
