What is remote stop motion animation?

Remote stop motion animation is the process of creating stop motion animated videos or films while working from a location outside a traditional studio, often from home. Animators use specialized software and camera setups to capture frame-by-frame movement of physical objects, then collaborate with teams or clients online. This remote approach allows for creative flexibility and can involve sharing files, feedback, and project updates using cloud-based tools. It has become increasingly popular due to advancements in digital communication and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote stop motion animator?

To thrive as a Remote Stop Motion Animator, you need a solid background in animation principles, storytelling, and strong artistic skills, often supported by a degree in animation or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Dragonframe, Adobe After Effects, and video conferencing tools is typically expected. Outstanding time management, creative problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for collaborating with teams and clients remotely. These abilities ensure high-quality productions, efficient workflows, and effective collaboration in a remote animation environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote stop motion animators, and how can they be addressed?

Remote stop motion animators often face challenges such as coordinating with team members across different time zones, managing large file transfers, and maintaining consistent communication about project updates. To overcome these hurdles, many teams use collaborative project management tools, cloud-based storage solutions, and regular video calls to ensure everyone stays aligned. Building a structured workflow and setting clear expectations for feedback and deadlines can greatly enhance productivity and reduce misunderstandings.

Job description

bout Us
Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets through automating and streamlining the work of assurance and audit practitioners specifically within cybersecurity, privacy, and financial audit. Put simply, we build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.
We're based in San Francisco, CA, but built as a remote-first company that enables you to do your best work from anywhere. We're backed by top investors including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, DNX Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Justin Kan, Elad Gil, and more.
We value diversity - in backgrounds and in experiences. We need people from all backgrounds and walks of life to help build the future of audit and advisory. Fieldguide's team is inclusive, driven, humble and supportive. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of team and culture that we are building, seeking teammates that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other's growth.
As an early stage start-up employee, you'll have the opportunity to build out the future of business trust. We make audit practitioners' lives easier by bringing together up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.
About the Role
We're hiring a Motion Designer to join the Fieldguide team. You'll own the animations, product explainers, and campaign pieces that bring our product and brand to life. You'll take dense, technical product and brand concepts and turn them into visual stories that are sharp, credible, and engaging. This is a dedicated motion design seat: you'll partner closely with our creative team to set the standard for motion and animation at Fieldguide, and build the visual language for how we represent our product and its ideas in motion.
What You'll Do
  • Design and animate motion graphics for brand videos, product explainers, campaign content, and event deliverables, translating technical and strategic concepts into visuals that resonate and connect with our audience.
  • Build the visual language for how we represent our product and its ideas in motion: UI animation, data visualization, conceptual/abstract sequences, and typography-driven storytelling.
  • Own and evolve our motion design system (transitions, iconography in motion, animation principles).
  • Work directly with brand, product marketing, and design to scope projects from concept through final delivery.
  • Partner with video editors on hybrid pieces, handing off or receiving cuts and layering in motion graphics, titles, and effects.

Who You Are
  • A strong portfolio of motion work that demonstrates visual storytelling, art direction, animation craft, and visual systems thinking.
  • A track record of making technical ideas visually clear. The ability to look at a paragraph of product or strategy language and see the animation in it.
  • Deep fluency in motion design tools and workflows such as After Effects, Figma, Cinema 4D, Lottie, Rive, code-adjacent motion, or comparable production tools.
  • Strong typography and systems thinking: you can build a visual language once and reuse it consistently across many pieces.
  • Comfortable working in Figma and collaborating directly with Product Designers to translate complex UI into marketing motion.
  • A team player who brings a unique sense of aesthetics and passion for bringing concepts to life.
