Job description

We are seeking the ideal candidate for our iSeries Developer opening for our growing insurance company.

This position will perform development, analysis, and maintenance activities on several key corporate applications. The ideal candidate will be an experienced RPG developer to help evolve and upgrade critical applications on our iSeries (AS/400) platform. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with stable systems while driving modernization initiatives with SQL, API and web service integrations, Visual Studio Code, and AI assisted development.

This candidate must be motivated and a self-starter who is able to work independently as well as within a team.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enhance and support core business applications in RPG IV/ILE and Free form
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements, creating functional specifications for applications
  • Conduct code reviews, perform unit testing, and coordinate with IT team members on development and QA tasks
  • Create technical design documentation for assigned projects
  • Implement and maintain development standards and deployment processes and procedures
  • Contribute to modernization efforts using SQL, APIs/web services, and AI (i.e., ChatGPT, Claude)
  • Assist with IT Help Desk tickets for production issues with business users and IT team as needed for timely resolution
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience in full lifecycle delivery of complex systems, including requirements gathering, design, build, test, and deployment
  • Strong knowledge of relevant development environments, protocols, and programming languages associated with the iSeries, including RPG IV/ILE and RPG Free, SQL including imbedded SQL in RPG, CL
  • Experience with Visual Studio Code with IBM i related extensions a plus.
  • Understanding of Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance principles and practices
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with stakeholders and IT team

Estimated Compensation Range: $90,000/year-$120,000/year*

*Published ranges are estimates. Offered compensation will be based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location. In addition, starting salary may vary by position depending on whether the position is in-office, hybrid or remote.
