This engagement focuses on documenting the existing solution, refreshing and optimizing SQL Server databases, and providing maintenance support. The consultant will also produce comprehensive documentation to enable a clean handoff to the lead for upcoming migration of the solution to Snowflake.
Required Qualifications

  • Experience documenting legacy systems and reverse engineering both database and application logic.
  • Ability to quickly interpret and simplify complex VBA and Access form structures.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture principles and migration considerations.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross team collaboration and knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities
1. Application & Architecture Documentation
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the existing MS Access/VBA front-end and SQL Server back-end architecture.
  • Document application workflow, business logic, data flows, dependencies, and integration points.
  • Create detailed technical documentation including:
    • Entity relationship diagrams
    • Process flows and data lineage
    • VBA module/function catalog
    • Configuration and environment details

2. SQL Server Database Refresh & Optimization
  • Review and assess the current SQL Server database structure, stored procedures, tables, indexes, and jobs.
  • Perform cleanup, optimization, and refresh activities including:
    • Index tuning
    • Query optimization
    • Archival strategies
    • Database health checks and remediation
  • Ensure alignment of SQL Server structures with documented business and technical requirements.

3. Application Maintenance & Support
  • Provide ongoing support for the existing Star Tracker application during the engagement period.

4. Migration Readiness & Handoff
• Partner closely with Optum Tech to prepare the solution for migration to Snowflake.
• Ensure documentation is complete, structured, and migration friendly.
• Participate in knowledge transfer sessions with technical and product teams.
• Identify risks, gaps, or dependencies that may impact migration readiness.

• Experience producing migration ready documentation.
