Equiti is seeking qualified Video Medical Interpreters to work remotely from any U.S.-based location. As a vital member of our interpretation team, you will facilitate clear, accurate, and culturally competent communication between healthcare providers and Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients. You will serve as a professional conduit for information and, when appropriate, a cultural broker to ensure full understanding. Interpreters support both healthcare and educational settings via audio and video modalities.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Interpret accurately and completely between source and target language for hospitals, clinics, and other facilities nationwide.
  • Ensure full comprehension by adjusting register as needed for the LEP patient.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and professional standards.
  • Adhere to Equiti's quality policy and promote excellent customer service to clients and patients.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional interactions with all users.
  • Act as a cultural broker when needed to clarify cultural nuances or misunderstandings.
  • Demonstrate camera awareness during VRI sessions, ensuring proper posture, voice projection, and presence.
  • Maintain required certifications and continue professional development.
  • Adapt to changing technology, platforms, and protocols as needed.
  • Participate actively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in remote medical interpreting (required).
  • 40+ hours of interpreter training (e.g., Bridging the Gap or equivalent).
  • Medical interpretation certification (e.g., CMI, CHI) preferred.
  • Documented fluency in English and at least one other language.
  • Equal command of medical, educational, and social service terminology in both languages.
  • Proven understanding of the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to learn and operate proprietary and common software tools.
  • Ability to adjust interpretation register appropriately.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and a teamwork mindset.
  • Experience serving individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
