What is remote solar finance?

Remote solar finance refers to the process of managing, funding, and investing in solar energy projects from a remote location, often using digital tools and platforms. Professionals in this field may work for solar companies, banks, or financial institutions, evaluating project feasibility, securing funding, and overseeing financial operations without being physically present at project sites. This approach allows for broader access to projects worldwide, efficient collaboration, and the use of technology to streamline financial assessments and transactions.

To thrive as a Remote Solar Finance professional, you need a strong understanding of financial modeling, renewable energy markets, and project finance principles, often supported by a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Familiarity with financial analysis software like Excel, Power BI, and industry-specific tools such as Helioscope or PVsyst, as well as relevant certifications (e.g., CFA or CPA), is highly valued. Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for effectively collaborating across remote teams and presenting financial insights. These skills and qualifications are essential to accurately assess project viability, secure funding, and drive the success of solar energy initiatives in a remote work environment.

Job description

About Us

Solar Landscape is the leading commercial rooftop solar developer in the U.S. Only 4% of commercial rooftops host solar today - we're changing that, fast. Commercial rooftop solar is the fastest, smartest way to build new clean power - delivering megawatts of generation in months, not years, and powering America's energy and future right where it's needed most. By turning rooftops into local power plants, we're reshaping how - and how fast - energy gets built in the U.S.

Recognized as the #1 Distributed Generation Developer by New Project Media, the #1 National Commercial Rooftop Solar Developer by Solar Power World, and winner of the U.S. Department of Energy's Grand Prize for Clean Energy, Solar Landscape is defining the future of energy generation in America.

Headquartered in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Solar Landscape has offices in Chicago, Baltimore, and New York City and operates in over a dozen states nationwide.

We move fast, solve hard problems, and take our work seriously - but never ourselves. We value clear thinking, accountability, and execution. At the same time, we're collaborative by default, and believe the best work happens when people enjoy working together. Our team is made up of smart, grounded people who show up for each other - whether that's troubleshooting a system design or catching up over lunch.

If you're looking to do meaningful work in a high-performance environment - and be part of the team reshaping how energy gets built in the U.S. - we'd love to meet you.

About The Role

We are searching for a hands-on accounting leader responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company's financial close and reporting processes. This role plays a critical part in a multi-entity environment, supporting consolidations, intercompany activity, and project-based accounting while driving consistency and discipline across the close.

The ideal candidate brings deep general ledger expertise, strong technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to operate both strategically and tactically within a fast-paced, evolving organization.

Responsibilities
  • Play a key role in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion
  • Prepare and review journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and complex adjustments
  • Perform account reconciliations, ensuring completeness and resolution of discrepancies
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Support multi-entity close activities, including consolidations and intercompany eliminations
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger and ensure proper application of accounting policies (GAAP)
  • Analyze financial results and investigate variances to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Support audit preparation and coordinate documentation for external auditors
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls and accounting processes
  • Identify and drive improvements in close efficiency, documentation, and systems
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus)
  • 9+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and general ledger ownership
  • Experience supporting external audits, with the ability to meet increased documentation and reporting requirements
  • Experience in multi-entity environments, including consolidations and intercompany eliminations
  • Experience supporting project-based accounting, including percentage of completion revenue recognition, CIP cost tracking, and project-level margin analysis
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
  • Exposure to AI and automation tools, with the ability to apply technology to streamline accounting processes and reporting
Core Competencies
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong ownership and accountability
  • Ability to operate both hands-on and at a higher level within the close process
  • Process-driven with a focus on improving efficiency and consistency
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Collaborative and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
$180,000 - $220,000 a year

Salary will vary depending on your location and job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive-based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
