Remote Smart Farming information

What is remote smart farming?

Remote smart farming refers to the use of advanced technologies such as sensors, drones, satellite imagery, and data analytics to monitor and manage agricultural operations from a distance. This approach allows farmers and agronomists to optimize crop growth, monitor soil health, automate irrigation, and track livestock without being physically present on the farm. By leveraging real-time data and remote control systems, smart farming increases efficiency, reduces resource usage, and improves yields. This technological innovation is transforming traditional agriculture into a more sustainable and productive industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote smart farming specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Smart Farming Specialist, you need expertise in agricultural science, data analysis, and a strong understanding of precision farming techniques, often supported by a degree in agriculture or related fields. Familiarity with IoT devices, remote sensing technology, farm management software, and certifications in precision agriculture tools are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and adaptability help you interpret data and collaborate with farmers or technical teams. These skills are vital to optimize crop yields, improve sustainability, and efficiently manage farms using advanced technology from a remote setting.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote smart farming role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Remote Smart Farming often face challenges such as managing connectivity issues in rural areas, interpreting large volumes of data from IoT devices, and ensuring the reliability of automated systems. Addressing these challenges typically involves working closely with IT teams to improve network infrastructure, using advanced analytics tools to process and visualize data, and collaborating with on-site staff to maintain equipment. Continuous learning about new agricultural technologies and regular communication with cross-disciplinary teams can also help overcome these obstacles, making the role both dynamic and rewarding.

Job description

We're Blue River, a team of innovators driven to create intelligent machinery that solves monumental problems for our customers. We empower our customers - farmers, construction crews, and foresters - to implement safer and more sustainable solutions, driving increased profitability with less reliance on scarce labor. We believe that focusing on the small stuff - pixel-by-pixel and task-by-task - leads to big gains.

Blue River Technology aligns with John Deere's vision to "innovate on behalf of humanity" by quickly identifying and solving high-value, high-uncertainty challenges in AI, machine learning, computer vision, and robotics. BRT acts as a research and development flywheel, building not only new products but also new platforms that reliably create value for both Deere and its customers. From fully autonomous machines to highly precise farming equipment, BRT and Deere are partnering to create technical breakthroughs in industries like agriculture and construction.

Summary

We are seeking a data-obsessed, solutions-oriented Software Engineer to join our team. This person will collaborate with multiple teams within BRT. They will be customer-oriented and will work with both internal and external customers. This team is core to the See and Spray strategy. We collect and upload petabytes of data every day, which we then use to train our models, improve our systems, and provide insights to our end customers. See and Spray is core to Deere's SaaS based growth strategy.

This person will help deliver the promise of Precision Agriculture to the world's farm fields. In this role, you will collaborate with our team to optimize image-processing systems for computer vision and machine learning using large datasets from our agricultural robotic systems. We tackle our objectives with multi-functional engineering teams of systems and embedded software, test and QA, mechatronics, computer vision, and machine learning engineers. Our team is empowered to figure out how to overcome challenges, plan, and prioritize work; everyone is a key contributor.
