Organizational Context
Sepsis Alliance operates as a national nonprofit with a collaborative remote team committed to improving sepsis awareness, prevention, and care. The organization maintains a lean staff structure supported by an engaged Board of Directors and external advisors.
The Director of Operations works closely with the CEO and leadership team, supervises the Manager of Operations, and partners with a contracted Finance Manager. The role plays a key part in strengthening internal systems and helping the organization scale its national impact.
Position Overview
The Director of Operations leads Sepsis Alliance's internal operations and organizational infrastructure, ensuring that systems, processes, and resources are aligned to support mission execution and organizational growth.
As a member of the leadership team, the Director partners with the CEO and senior staff to translate strategy into coordinated organizational action. This role oversees operational systems, people and culture initiatives, internal coordination, and organizational planning while supporting financial stewardship and organizational resilience.

Key Responsibilities
Organizational Operations
  • Lead operational systems, administrative infrastructure, and internal workflows
  • Establish operational policies, standards, and processes that support efficient execution
  • Oversee organizational technology platforms including Salesforce governance and improvements
  • Manage contracts, insurance review, and organizational risk management practices

Organizational Planning & Stewardship
  • Partner with leadership on annual planning, budgeting, and organizational priorities
  • Translate strategic priorities into operational goals, timelines, and accountability structures
  • Oversee financial operations in partnership with the contracted Finance Manager and the Finance Committee
  • Review financial reporting and operational metrics to identify trends and risks
  • Prepare operational and financial materials for Board and committee meetings

People & Culture
  • Lead initiatives that support employee engagement and organizational health
  • Oversee HR policies, benefits administration, and compensation philosophy including pay equity review
  • Support workforce planning and leadership development
  • Guide managers on people-related matters and organizational practices
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

Team Leadership
  • Supervise the Manager of Operations and partner with the Finance Manager
  • Establish operational priorities, workflows, and accountability structures
  • Coach and support team members while fostering collaboration and transparency

Executive Partnership
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO on operational matters
  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and leadership priorities
  • Track key organizational initiatives and support follow-through
  • Assist the CEO with Board preparation, leadership planning, and strategic discussions

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of operations or organizational leadership experience
  • 3-5+ years of nonprofit experience preferred
  • Experience managing organizational systems and internal operations
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and financial reporting systems (QuickBooks preferred)
  • Experience working within a PEO environment (Rippling preferred) and retirement plan administration
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate operational or financial information clearly to leadership and board members
  • Experience working effectively in remote or hybrid teams

Compensation
Salary range: $110,000 - $125,000, commensurate with experience and geographic location. This is a leadership-level role within Sepsis Alliance with significant organizational impact.
