Job description

Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney

An established California defense and trial practice is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney with a minimum of five years of workers' compensation defense experience. This fully remote opportunity is designed for attorneys who are comfortable independently managing a full caseload and appearing regularly before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board.

The practice maintains a strong emphasis on collaboration, client service, and long-term professional stability. Attorneys work closely with clients and colleagues to develop effective litigation strategies and deliver high-quality legal representation throughout California.

Position Summary

The attorney selected for this role will be responsible for handling workers' compensation defense matters from inception through resolution. The position requires independent case management, regular WCAB appearances, strategic litigation planning, and ongoing communication with clients and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full workers' compensation defense caseload
  • Represent clients at WCAB hearings, depositions, and trials
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other litigation documents
  • Conduct legal research and factual investigations
  • Perform case evaluations and exposure assessments
  • Interview witnesses and analyze claim-related evidence
  • Develop and execute litigation strategies tailored to individual matters
  • Communicate effectively with clients, claims adjusters, opposing counsel, and internal team members
  • Maintain compliance with EAMS requirements, WCAB procedures, and applicable ethical standards

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active California State Bar license in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years of workers' compensation defense experience
  • Experience in independently managing workers' compensation files
  • Familiarity with EAMS and WCAB procedures and regulations
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills
  • Excellent organizational and case management abilities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $150,000โ€“$190,000 annually
