Remote Scada Engineer information

What does a Remote SCADA Engineer do?

A Remote SCADA Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems from a remote location. Their work involves monitoring and controlling industrial processes such as water treatment, energy distribution, or manufacturing operations via computer systems and specialized software. They troubleshoot system issues, ensure data integrity, implement security measures, and may also provide technical support to on-site staff. By working remotely, they can access SCADA networks securely over the internet to perform updates, resolve problems, and optimize system performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote SCADA Engineer?

To thrive as a Remote SCADA Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical or computer engineering, experience with industrial automation, and a deep understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Familiarity with PLC programming, HMI software, network protocols (like Modbus and DNP3), and relevant certifications such as ISA or CompTIA Network+ are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help individuals excel in diagnosing issues and collaborating with distributed teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operation of critical infrastructure systems from a remote setting.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote SCADA Engineers and how can they be addressed?

Remote SCADA Engineers often encounter challenges related to network connectivity, cybersecurity, and diagnosing system issues without being physically present on-site. To address these challenges, it is important to establish robust remote monitoring protocols, maintain secure communication channels, and develop strong troubleshooting skills using remote diagnostic tools. Collaborating closely with on-site technicians and maintaining comprehensive documentation can also help resolve issues more efficiently and minimize downtime.

About Automated Logic
At Automated Logic, we've been developing and supporting intelligent building solutions that have helped customers, including small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations, operate their buildings more efficiently for over 40 years. Our products help reduce energy consumption, lower utility, operating and maintenance costs, and improve indoor air quality, occupant comfort, and productivity. Technology that supports the buildings and industry of today and tomorrow requires a wide range of talents and skill sets.
About This Role
Our work increasingly sits at the intersection of OT controls, SCADA, and enterprise data. We deploy Ignition SCADA, Rockwell Automation PLCs, and open industrial protocols to provide deep, trustworthy visibility into mechanical plants, electrical distribution, and power quality without locking customers into brittle or opaque architectures. We are seeking senior-level PLC/SCADA Engineer who brings strong technical judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to design solutions that keep working years after handoff.
Scope of Position:
As a Senior PLC/SCADA Controls Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority for data center automation and electrical power monitoring systems. You will lead the design of Ignition-based data center SCADA platforms integrated with Rockwell PLC control systems, electrical power monitoring devices, and third-party subsystems. You will influence how systems are designed, modeled, how data flows, and how operators interact with critical infrastructure across single sites and multi-site portfolios.
This role carries technical ownership, cross-disciplinary influence, and mentorship expectations. You are someone others come to when the system behavior matters, not just whether it "works."
Key Responsibilities:
