What is a remote Salesforce developer (night shift)?

A Remote Salesforce Developer (Night Shift) is an IT professional who designs, develops, and maintains custom applications and solutions on the Salesforce platform, while working from a remote location and primarily during nighttime hours. This role often supports organizations that operate across multiple time zones or require round-the-clock technical support. Night shift developers may collaborate with global teams, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless Salesforce integration and functionality while most of the local team is offline.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Salesforce developer (night shift)?

To thrive as a Remote Salesforce Developer (Night Shift), you need strong programming skills in Apex, Lightning Components, and a solid understanding of the Salesforce platform, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in computer science and Salesforce certifications like Platform Developer I/II. Familiarity with tools such as Visual Studio Code, Salesforce DX, Git, and integration systems like REST/SOAP APIs is essential. Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills, especially when working independently during night shifts. These skills ensure the ability to deliver robust Salesforce solutions, maintain seamless collaboration across time zones, and address technical challenges efficiently in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Salesforce developers working the night shift, and how can they be managed?

Remote Salesforce Developers on the night shift often encounter challenges such as collaborating across time zones, maintaining clear communication with daytime teams, and managing work-life balance. Gross annual base salary: USD 100,000 - 128,500
Additional variable compensation and benefits may apply. Total compensation is based on experience, skills, and location using objective, job-related criteria.
Summary
The Salesforce Developer designs, builds, and maintains custom solutions on the Salesforce platform, working across Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, and platform integrations to extend the system beyond its out-of-the-box capabilities. This person partners with business stakeholders and the broader Business Systems team to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions, follows secure coding and release management practices, and serves as a technical resource for other Salesforce team members. The role combines hands-on development with platform administration, reporting, and user support as needed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Development & Platform Engineering
  • Design and build custom solutions on the Salesforce platform using Apex (classes, triggers, batch/scheduled jobs), Lightning Web Components, and Flow, following in-house coding and integration standards.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between Salesforce and external systems using REST, SOAP, Salesforce Connect/OData, and platform events.
  • Write and maintain Apex unit tests to meet code coverage and quality requirements prior to deployment.
  • Debug and troubleshoot components and code built by other developers, including AppExchange packages.
  • Manage deployments across sandboxes using version control and CI/CD tooling; adhere to change control and release management processes.
  • Collaborate with the team to design data models, user interfaces, business logic, and security for custom applications.
  • Stay current on new Salesforce releases and platform features; lead or support regression testing ahead of Salesforce-side upgrades to avoid disruption.

Platform Administration & Configuration
  • Develop and enhance the Salesforce platform, including Sales Cloud, Salesforce Mobile App, and Experience Cloud.
  • Build and maintain fields, objects, page layouts, workflows, and automation (Flow) within Salesforce.
  • Maintain and evolve user roles, profiles, permission sets, sharing rules, and security levels; map hierarchy and territory changes in response to personnel changes.
  • Review, prioritize, and implement enhancement requests.

Data Quality, Migration and Maintenance
  • Assist with migration from legacy systems/processes into Salesforce and manage data imports as needed.
  • Monitor and manage exception logs for back-end system integration with SFDC.
  • Monitor and improve data quality, including merging duplicate Leads, Contacts, and Accounts, mass data updates, and removing unnecessary fields.

Reporting & Analytics
  • Create and maintain reports and dashboards, including folder maintenance and access.
  • Develop complex, automation-driven reports to summarize system information for senior management.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting requests and build report folders to improve sales efficiency.

Documentation & Process
  • Document created solutions, company processes, workflows, and field maps.
  • Create new processes and associated reporting as needed.

User Support, Training & Adoption
  • Serve as a technical resource and second-level support for Service Desk incidents related to Salesforce.
  • Provide training and mentoring to end users and other SFDC team members.
  • Communicate regularly with the user base regarding new features, enhancements, and changes to the system.
  • Continually seek ways to improve the end-user experience and promote platform adoption.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Salesforce development experience, including Apex and Lightning Web Components.
  • Salesforce Platform Developer I certification required (Platform Developer II a plus).
  • In-depth knowledge of standard SFDC capabilities, with demonstrated experience extending them through custom code and/or integrations with external systems.
  • Experience with SOQL/SOSL, REST/SOAP web services, and third-party integrations.
  • Experience with version control and CI/CD or release management tooling (e.g., Salesforce DX, Gearset, Copado).
  • Experience debugging components and code built by other developers.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Salesforce Certifications-Administrator, Platform Developer (1 or 2), or CPQ Specialist preferred.
