Description

Position Overview

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role for a builder. You will own the full business development lifecycle for school district partnerships - from prospecting and relationship cultivation to contract execution and handoff. Over time, this role is expected to evolve as Intercare expands into new service lines beyond ABA, giving the right candidate the opportunity to shape and lead a growing practice area.  We're looking for what we call a "shark with heart" - someone who closes deals with tenacity and urgency, and is equally motivated by the knowledge that every signed contract means more students getting the behavioral health support they need.

Salary:Starting at$150k

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Contract Acquisition

  • Identify, target, and cultivate relationships with Special Education Directors, Assistant Superintendents, and district procurement leaders across a designated 3-4 state territory.
  • Develop and execute a territory-specific pipeline strategy to secure new ABA service contracts with public school districts.
  • Lead the full sales cycle from initial outreach through RFP response, negotiation, and contract execution.
  • Represent Intercare at state-level special education conferences, SELPA events, and district stakeholder meetings.

Contract Handoff & Internal Collaboration

  • Execute a clean, structured handoff of signed contracts to Operations and Clinical teams, ensuring all district requirements, timelines, and expectations are clearly documented and transferred.
  • Collaborate with internal teams during the pre-close phase to validate service capacity, credentialing readiness, and implementation feasibility prior to contract execution.
  • Re-engage existing district relationships to introduce and sell new Intercare service lines as they become available - this is the primary avenue for account growth in this role.

Strategic Planning & Future Service Lines

  • Contribute to Intercare's long-range expansion strategy as we look to grow beyond ABA into complementary school-based services.
  • Provide market intelligence on district needs, competitive landscape, and regulatory trends across priority states.
  • (Senior Director) Lead strategic planning for the school partnerships function; define prioritization frameworks and go-to-market approaches for new service lines.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with clinical, credentialing, and operations teams to support proposal development and service readiness.
  • Work with marketing on thought leadership, collateral, and district-facing communications.
  • (Senior Director) May hire, onboard, and manage Director-level team members as the function scales

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Experience selling or developing partnerships with K-12 public school districts, ideally in special education services.
  • Demonstrated track record of closing and growing multi-year service contracts.
  • Strong understanding of the IDEA, IEP process, and how districts procure behavioral health or therapeutic services.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with district administrators and senior education leaders.
  • Ability to travel across a multi-state territory (estimated 25-40%) to attend meetings, conferences, and site visits.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage a complex pipeline independently in a remote environment

Preferred:

  • Background in ABA, behavioral health, or special education services.
  • Experience navigating SELPA structures, district budgeting cycles, and public procurement processes.
  • Familiarity with California, Arizona, Nevada, or other Western states' special education landscapes.
  • (Senior Director) Experience building or managing a BD team; comfort presenting to executive leadership and board-level stakeholders
