The opportunity

In this role, you will work closely with clients and internal stakeholders to assess and evaluate complex commercial large loss claims, supporting the early-to-mid stages of the claim lifecycle. Through a combination of on-site visits and virtual reviews, you will analyze damage, validate loss details, and develop fulsome scope of repair and align with multiple stakeholders to recommendation a restoration approach tailored to each project. Your focus will be on establishing accurate, well-supported pricing and providing expert cost guidance to inform decision-making.

You will apply your expertise across a diverse range of commercial industries such as builders' risk, manufacturing, real estate, hospitality, retail, and other specialized sectors, adapting your approach to the unique operational and structural considerations of each loss. By interpreting drawings, site conditions, and technical inputs, you will ensure that scopes reflect both practical repair solutions and appropriate commercial outcomes.

You will collaborate closely with Claims Professionals, brokers, engineers, and customers to provide timely, transparent insights and recommendations. This includes reviewing estimates, validating assumptions, identifying cost drivers, and offering practical options to support effective claim resolution. You will play a critical role in setting a strong foundation for successful outcomes through the accuracy and clarity of your initial assessments.

In addition, you will contribute to maintaining consistency and quality across the broader partner network by reviewing external consultant deliverables-including scopes, and cost estimates-and providing thoughtful feedback and insight. Your approach will emphasize collaboration and alignment, helping to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to best practices while fostering strong, professional relationships with external partners.

This work must be completed efficiently to control indemnity and expense costs, without compromising Customer Experience. You will ensure all activities align with Aviva's best practices and handling procedures.


Given the nature of this role, and oversight requirements across the country, this is a remote-based Hybrid position which includes frequent travel in Ontario.

What you'll do:

  • Act as a trusted advisor on complex commercial large loss claims, bringing clarity and structure to situations that are often ambiguous, time-sensitive, and high impact.

  • Interpret loss information from multiple sources-including site observations, documentation, and stakeholder input-to form a clear view of the damage, required work, and associated cost considerations.

  • Shape early-stage claim direction by helping define practical repair strategies and providing well-reasoned pricing perspectives that support confident, informed decisions.

  • Apply your expertise across a range of commercial environments, adjusting your approach based on the operational realities and technical nuances of different industries such as builders' risk, manufacturing, and other specialized sectors.

  • Work alongside internal teams and customer to test assumptions, challenge inconsistencies, and bring forward insights that improve overall claim outcomes without overcomplicating the process.

  • Contribute to a strong, consistent approach to large loss management by offering an informed perspective on external reports, helping to enhance quality, clarity, and alignment across all parties involved.

  • Build effective working relationships with external consultants by engaging in open, professional dialogue that supports shared understanding and continuous improvement.

  • Provide concise, actionable input at key decision points, helping stakeholders balance cost, scope, and timelines while maintaining a focus on practical and commercially sound solutions.

  • Ensure timely and effective correspondence, including the review of submitted documents and related system notes.

What you'll bring:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial property construction, cost consulting, estimating, or a related discipline, with significant exposure to large loss claims.

  • Extensive experience in scoping and estimating, including the ability to develop comprehensive, estimates using industry-standard tools such as Xactimate at a senior/advanced level.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and repair practices across a variety of asset types and industries.

  • Proven ability to interpret complex loss scenarios, assess cost drivers, and develop practical, well-reasoned solutions.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts, recommendations, and financial implications to diverse stakeholders.

  • Solid understanding of industry standards and best practices, including IICRC guidelines and restoration principles.

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including adjusters, engineers, contractors, and external consultants, in complex and fast-paced environments.

  • Strong professional judgment, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and support sound, balanced decision-making.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, both internally and externally.

  • High level of accountability, organization, and commitment to quality deliverables.

What You'll Get:

  • The salary band for this position ranges from $135,000 to $155,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
