Bowman has an opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer, PV Systems to join our team Remotely.

Purpose

Efficiently execute various levels of drafting and analysis utility and commercial scale PV design projects and occasionally act as Project Manager in coordination with a team of engineers and various project stakeholders.


Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially complex assignments, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is completed using advanced engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
  • Represent project team in client communications and resolutions.

Do the Work

  • Lead and participate in the design and development of electrical plan sets, including site layouts and equipment details.
  • Perform final reviews and PE approval for PV and Energy Storage system electrical designs.
  • Lead and participate in design related consulting and PV system modeling.
  • Oversee and supervise contractors and employees who are performing project tasks by providing technical support and guidance during execution.
  • Learn and enhance plan-set templates, standards, and best practices.
  • Design equipment layouts, installation details, and single-line diagrams (PV, MV, Auxiliary Power, Monitoring, etc.).
  • Coordinate and design engineers and collaborate with sub-consultants as needed.
  • Interface with utilities and coordinate the design of interconnections with licensed Engineers.
  • Identify issues on projects and collaborate with the client, co-workers, and others to execute effective solutions.
  • Interact with team members, clients, vendors, installation contractors, and others to create efficient and cohesive designs.
  • Generate Single Line Diagrams and interpret requirements for utility interconnection application processes.
  • Perform electrical studies using SKM, ETAP, or similar software
  • Report the status of progress on each project to Senior Managers on a weekly or daily basis as needed. Attend weekly management meetings
  • Appropriately request financial, legal and technical support as needed on projects and keep on schedule.
  • Occasionally provide estimates of time to perform tasks.
  • Responsible for more complex tasks and/or designs within project assignments.
  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Oversee designs through project construction/completion.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
  • Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
  • Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
  • Complete electrical calculations.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
  • Define and determine project specifications and budget construction cost estimating.
  • Address comments from clients, AHJ's & other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly.
  • If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals).
  • Work within established project budgets.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Three or more (3+) years of relevant experience in the Solar PV industry.
  • Plans or progress toward earning Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Medium voltage design and interconnection experience.
  • NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD required.
  • Experience with PV system modeling software such as PVsyst, Helioscope and/or Homer desired
  • Ability to perform shading analyses is highly desirable.
  • Energy storage system design experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner, and to act as a project leader of a PV design team.
  • Must hold a NCEEES record or be willing to quickly establish one.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
