Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Development Engineer III based in Netherlands.

Join a fully remote engineering team focused on building scalable, high-performance backend solutions that power modern software products. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of distributed systems while delivering features that have a direct impact on end users. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers in a fast-paced, product-driven environment where ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement are highly valued. Beyond writing production-ready code, you'll help shape architecture decisions, improve system reliability, and mentor fellow developers. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, embracing modern development practices, and working across the full software development lifecycle.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs capable of handling production workloads with high reliability and performance.
  • Deliver features from initial design through deployment, including testing, code reviews, production releases, monitoring, and incident resolution.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve application and infrastructure performance bottlenecks while implementing measurable optimizations.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions by proposing scalable technical solutions supported by research, proof of concepts, or capacity planning.
  • Build and enhance logging, monitoring, and alerting capabilities to proactively detect and resolve operational issues.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software that aligns with business and customer needs.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and collaborative programming sessions while promoting engineering best practices.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on backend engineering.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Python or Node.js, with experience delivering production-grade applications.
  • Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and REST API design and implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, relational database design, query optimization, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with ORMs such as Prisma, caching technologies like Redis, background job processing, and scheduled task management.
  • Proven ability to own software features throughout the entire development lifecycle, from design to production deployment and ongoing maintenance.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity while maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with experience diagnosing and resolving production issues in dynamic environments.
  • Good product mindset with experience contributing to end-to-end product development, including exposure to frontend technologies or UI design.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS, GCP, Azure, JWT authentication, or monitoring platforms is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and mentoring skills, with a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary aligned with market standards.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Flexible working hours that support work-life balance.
  • Professional development budget for training, certifications, and industry conferences.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful products using modern technologies.
  • Collaborative engineering culture with opportunities for mentorship and career growth.
