MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our team. This position is remote within Virginia, but requires occasional travel to Chesapeake or Norfolk, VA, for client meetings and events
The Electrical Engineer will leverage their strong technical background and knowledge to support Military Sealift Command (MSC) engineering and design efforts. You will help manage the technical aspects of shipboard engineering requirements for generating, distributing, and controlling electrical power, lighting, and communication circuits to ensure safe and reliable electrical plant operation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing complex electrical load analyses, fault current analyses, and coordination of protective devices for proposed shipboard alterations.
  • Developing contract designs and in-house designs while performing troubleshooting and First Article Testing in accordance with regulatory agency standards.
  • Conducting surveys, inspection trips, and attending sea trials or ship checks before, during, and after structural and system alterations.
  • Performing Electrical Calculations and Schematics, including Voltage Drop Calculations, Load Calculations, and Power & Lighting One Line Diagrams.
  • Developing Electrical Plant Load Analysis (EPLA), Protective Device Coordination Studies, and Electric Plant Distribution Impact Data (EPDID).
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to develop Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA) and Periodic Safety Test Procedures (PSTP) for U.S. Coast Guard approvals.
  • Working with all internal and external teams to ensure complete and functioning electrical systems that meet all MSC mission requirements.
  • Occasional travel to Chesapeake or Norfolk, VA, for client meetings and events.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience with specialized vessels in one or more of the following areas: Expeditionary Fast Transport Vessels (T-EPF), Hospital Ships (T-AH), Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships (T-AKE), Underway Replenishment Oilers (T-AO), Cable Laying/Repair (T-ARC), Rescue/Salvage Ships (T-ARS), Submarine Tender (T-AS), Fleet Ocean Tugs (T-ATF), Command Ship (LCC), Expeditionary Mobile Base (T-ESB), Fast Combat Support Vessels (T-AOE) or like vessels.
  • Experience with marine power plants, propulsion control systems, automation and control systems, and electrical/lighting distribution systems.
  • Experience with navigation and marine electronics systems in a naval or merchant marine environment.

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Demonstrated experience developing Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA) and Periodic Safety Test Procedures (PSTP).
  • Proficiency with SKM (or similar power system analysis software), MathCAD, Adobe Pro, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite.
  • Self-starter with excellent people skills - able to work across teams, organize meetings/boards, and drive change throughout an organization.

Clearance Requirements:
  • An active Secret clearance is required for this position.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, climb ladder wells on vessels, etc.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve attending meetings.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

The projected compensation range for this position is $70,200.00-$117,000.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
