Job Description
This role leads medium-complexity transmission and distribution projects for a large utility, overseeing the full project lifecycle from initiation through closure. The Project Manager 2 manages scope, schedule, and budget across engineering design, land, and construction activities, while coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and ensuring compliance with technical and financial expectations. The position requires strong communication, the ability to work under pressure, and the professionalism to engage with experience leadership and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure for assigned projects.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget for transmission and distribution initiatives.
- Oversee engineering design, land activities, construction, and overall project administration.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams of approximately five to ten people across one to two business units.
- Manage multiple projects typically lasting six months to two years, with budgets generally ranging from $500,000 to $10,000,000.
- Develop comprehensive project execution plans that align with business unit objectives and project complexity guidelines.
- Monitor project performance, identify risks and issues, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Ensure compliance with design and construction standards, project documentation requirements, and internal procedures.
- Prepare and deliver clear status updates, reports, and presentations to mid-level inter- and intra-departmental management.
- Present project plans, progress, and results to high-level executives in a polished and professional manner.
- Create and deliver slide decks and other presentation materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage Requests for Proposals (RFPs), including preparation, coordination, evaluation, and recommendations.
- Handle Requests for Information (RFIs) and Change Orders, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation.
- Coordinate project engineering and project coordination activities across design, engineering, and construction teams.
- Oversee construction documents, document control, and project-related records to maintain accuracy and audit readiness.
- Support estimation activities by providing project data, scope details, and coordination with relevant teams.
- Collaborate with leaders to determine project team resources and allocate responsibilities appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders across multiple departments to ensure alignment and issue resolution.
- Work under pressure and manage competing priorities while maintaining project quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
Essential Skills
- 3โ12 years of project management experience, with a focus on transmission and distribution projects for large utilities.
- Proven project management experience managing scope, schedule, and budget for medium-complexity projects.
- Construction management expertise, particularly in electrical and high voltage transmission and distribution projects.
- Experience managing engineering design, land, construction, and overall project administration.
- Hands-on experience with Requests for Information (RFIs) and Change Orders.
- Experience managing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and related procurement processes.
- Electrical project knowledge, including familiarity with high voltage transmission and distribution systems.
- Project engineering and project coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to prepare and deliver polished slide decks to high-level executives.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work effectively under stress and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Understanding of P6 or Microsoft Project for project scheduling and planning.
- Understanding of financials, including budget management and financial tracking for projects.

- Familiarity with construction documents and document control processes.
- Experience supporting estimation activities for construction or utility projects.

Work Environment
This role offers a blend of remote, office, and on-site work, supporting transmission and distribution projects for a large utility. Project Managers may work remotely but are expected to travel and be on-site approximately one week per month, with travel and hotel costs covered. You will collaborate with multi-departmental teams across one to two business units and work closely with engineering, land, and construction groups. The environment involves managing medium-complexity projects with budgets typically between $500,000 and $10,000,000 and durations of six months to two years. You will use tools such as P6 or Microsoft Project for scheduling, along with standard office and collaboration technologies for documentation, presentations, and communication. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
