Description
Our mortgage company is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Mortgage Underwriter with active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA SAR recommended, not required, to join our underwriting team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and approving mortgage loan applications to ensure they meet all investor and agency guidelines, with a focus on FHA and VA products, along with NON-QM and Construction. Must be willing to adjust hours to accommodate AZ or TX time zones.
Responsibilities
• Underwrite and issue credit decisions on FHA, VA, and conventional mortgage loans in compliance with agency, investor, and company guidelines.
• Utilize automated underwriting systems (AUS), such as DU and LP, to assess loan files.
• Review income, assets, credit, and collateral documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Perform detailed analysis of appraisals and property valuations, particularly for VA loans (SAR recommended).
• Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions to internal stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
• Work closely with loan officers, processors, and other team members to ensure timely and accurate processing.
• Maintain knowledge of industry regulations, investor guidelines, and company policies.
• Participate in quality control efforts and assist in audits or internal reviews as needed.
• Willing to adjust hours to accommodate AZ or TX time zones.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience with a strong track record in FHA and VA loan products.
Active DE (Direct Endorsement) designation required.
Active VA SAR (Staff Appraisal Reviewer) certification recommended, not required.
• Thorough knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, CONSTRUCTION, AND NON-QM guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
