Data Analyst

Location: Remote, within the United States

Annual salary range: $80,000 - $120,000

Relevant experience: 3 years required; 5 years preferred

U.S. citizenship required

Actionable Outcomes (AO) is seeking a Data Analyst to support our operations within government-owned systems, in furtherance of our mission to fight fraud against the federal government and generally aid proper payment decisions. The relevant data & computing environments are owned by the United States Treasury, and we are provided the access & autonomy needed in order to perform our contractual duties. We require an experienced and reliable individual who can quickly familiarize themselves with these environments and databases and contribute to the wide range of analytical services we provide to the Treasury and the agencies it supports.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in SQL and especially the linguistic variants that apply to PostgreSQL and AWS Redshift.
  • Experience querying databases containing terabytes of data and applying the necessary querying techniques to do so efficiently, such as temp tables and CTEs.
  • Familiarity with relational database table attributes such as multi-column indexes, primary & foreign keys, and
  • Aptitude using Excel or other applications to produce data visualizations based on query results.
  • Strong grasp of data visualization principles and best practices.
  • Extremely good attention to detail and a commitment to workflows that ensure extensive reviews for accuracy & correctness.
  • Basic automation skills using scripting languages such as VBA, Python, or R.
  • Solid writing skills for the purpose of using quantitative data to cogently answer substantive questions.
  • Experience working within highly secure systems, such as government systems with FedRAMP-high ratings, or corporate systems with SOC-2

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate & comprehensive data-driven results to answer arbitrary business questions, such as those pertaining to summary statistics & averages, rates of events over time, and large numbers of datapoints pertaining to a small number of individuals or entities.
  • Answer follow-up questions regarding previous query results, reports, and data visualizations, on-the-fly and in a videoconference setting.
  • Familiarize yourself with large existing datasets and the correct substantive interpretation of their data, for the purposes of both querying them intelligently & purposefully and explaining them to others, including those with little statistical or analytical experience.
