Remote Provenance Research information

What is remote provenance research?

Remote provenance research involves investigating the history and origins of objects, artworks, or artifacts from a distance, often using digital archives, databases, and online resources instead of in-person examinations. Researchers in this field typically work to verify the authenticity, ownership, and movement of items over time, which is critical for museums, collectors, and legal purposes. This approach has become increasingly important with advancements in technology and the need for global collaboration, allowing experts to access information and conduct thorough research without being physically present.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote provenance researcher?

To thrive as a Remote Provenance Researcher, you need a background in art history, museum studies, or a related field, along with strong research and analytical skills. Familiarity with databases, digital archives, provenance research software, and sometimes languages relevant to historical documentation is typically required. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and strong written communication skills help you synthesize information and collaborate with institutions remotely. Mastering these skills ensures accurate documentation of artwork origins, supports ethical acquisitions, and upholds institutional and legal standards.

What are common challenges faced by remote provenance researchers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote provenance researchers often encounter difficulties accessing physical archives or original documentation, which can slow down investigations. To address this, they rely heavily on digitized records, virtual collaboration tools, and networks of local contacts. Building strong relationships with museums, libraries, and experts worldwide can help overcome these barriers. Additionally, effective time management and clear communication with stakeholders are crucial for ensuring research progresses smoothly despite the remote nature of the role.

What is the difference between Remote Provenance Research vs Remote Archival Assistant?

AspectRemote Provenance ResearchRemote Archival Assistant
Required CredentialsHistory or Art History degree, research experienceLibrary Science or Archival Studies background, organizational skills
Work EnvironmentResearch-focused, analyzing provenance records, online databasesAssisting with archival cataloging, digitization, data entry
Employer & Industry UsageMuseums, auction houses, historical societiesArchives, libraries, cultural institutions
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding research scope, skills, and tasksClarifying support roles, administrative tasks

Remote Provenance Research involves analyzing and verifying the history of artworks or artifacts, requiring specialized research skills and historical knowledge. Remote Archival Assistants support archival management through data entry and digitization tasks. While both roles work remotely within cultural and historical sectors, provenance research is more research-intensive, whereas archival assistance focuses on organizational support.

Job description

PROLIM Global Corporation (www.prolim.com) is hiring a Research Operations Program Manager for a leading Technology Client.
Job Title: Research Operations Program Manager
Location: 100% Remote
Duration: 12 Months (Extendable)
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Research Operations Program Manager, Systems & Analytics to strengthen the execution layer behind that work. This role sits at the intersection of research operations, analytics, tooling, and operational change: building the systems that make research work visible, measurable, and easier to manage across a large, compliance-sensitive product organization.
The right person is an operator-builder: analytically strong, operationally practical, and comfortable taking ambiguous problems from diagnosis through adoption. They bring the judgment to know when to move independently, when to bring evidence forward, and how to build systems that make complex work easier to execute.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the execution and continuous improvement of program operating cadences, including intake tracking, milestone and risk management, and stakeholder updates
  • Build practical AI-enabled research operations workflows, including configuring internal tools, translating repeatable support and discovery needs into AI-assisted processes, evaluating AI vendors and self-service tools, and defining the controls needed for quality, privacy, provenance, measurement, and human review
  • Build and run the research operations portfolio system, including project status, data completeness, vendor/tool usage, and recurring portfolio reporting
  • Identify recurring process bottlenecks from support requests, chat history, tracker data, and stakeholder feedback; translate those patterns into documentation, self-service coverage, automation, or escalation paths
  • Establish measurement for research velocity, portfolio health, tool adoption, operational cost efficiency, self-service coverage, and AI-enabled workflow impact
  • Apply hands-on analysis across SQL, spreadsheets, vendor data, tracker data, and qualitative operational signals to surface performance trends, trade-offs, and decisions requiring leadership input
  • Drive adoption of new systems and workflows by instrumenting usage, closing data-quality gaps, training users, gathering feedback, and iterating based on what the team actually uses
  • Work with research leadership, data science, finance, legal/privacy, operations, and vendor partners to manage dependencies, address data gaps, and prepare evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers

Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in operations, program management, business operations, research operations, product operations, analytics, or a related field, including at least 3 years in operational analytics or measurement
  • Track record of designing and delivering complex operational programs or systems from concept through scaled adoption, including defining scope, building stakeholder alignment, and shipping iteratively without a pre-existing playbook
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI and automation to improve operational or analytical workflows with appropriate human and data-quality controls
  • Strong hands-on SQL and Excel or Google Sheets skills, with experience independently analyzing complex operational data
  • Demonstrated ability to define metrics and translate analysis, dashboards, and reporting into operational decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical judgment, executive-ready synthesis, and ability to influence senior stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting research, product insights, research operations, product operations, or another knowledge-intensive function
  • Experience with data workflow automation or lightweight systems development using tools such as Python, Apps Script, SQLite, or comparable technologies
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, provenance, access controls, or compliance-sensitive operations
  • Experience with vendor, procurement, budget, or program-impact measurement

Must-Have Skills
  • 8+ years of program and project management in a cross functional environment
  • 3+ years in analytics/metrics-focused work (program analytics, biz ops, data analyst, or similar)
  • Experience building dashboards using BI tools (Tableau, Looker, etc) and recurring reporting for stakeholders/leadership
  • SQL & T-SQL skills Strong hands-on SQL and Excel or Google Sheets skills, with experience independently analyzing complex operational data
  • Experience with data workflow automation or lightweight systems development using tools such as Python, Apps Script, SQLite, or comparable technologies

Nice-to-have Skills
  • Experience supporting research, product insights, or research operations
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, provenance, access controls, or compliance-sensitive operations
  • Experience with vendor, procurement, budget, or program-impact measurement

Years of Experience:
  • 7+ years experience

Degrees/Certifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical/quantitative field or equivalent experience

How many rounds of interviews?
  • 3 rounds

Types of Interviews
  • 1 - 15 minute presentation to present their past work
  • 1 data analyst interviewer
  • 1 program manager interviewer

Interview Duration
  • 30 minutes each for interviews
