Job description

VICE PRESIDENT - CONSULTANT RELATIONS, JEFFERIES ASSET MANAGEMENT

Jefferies Asset Management ("JefAM") is a subsidiary of Jefferies Financial Group, a publicly traded investment holding company with a 40-year track record and $24bn of permanent capital, and owner of a number of companies, including Jefferies. JefAM is a diversified alternative asset management platform, supporting and developing 18 private capital and hedge boutiques managing $65bn in AUM. JefAM incubates strategies with balance sheet capital while assisting with institutional build-out prior to being open to external capital. JefAM leverages Jefferies brand, balance sheet, business development and support resources along with Jefferies relationships and institutional infrastructure.

As part of the JefAM team and working collaboratively with other senior members of the team, we are seeking a senior Consultant Relations professional to help cover US-based firms, who will help drive JefAM's business development efforts.

Given the outward-facing nature of the role and level of interaction with existing and potential new clients, this is a high-visibility position that carries significant responsibility and potential impact on JefAM's ability to both manage and grow its broad investment management business.

Role & Responsibilities:
Based in New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, or the West Coast, the Consultant Relations professional will be responsible for supporting all aspects of JefAM's business development and investor relations efforts. Remote work may be considered for locations outside of New York. The successful candidate will help to support the firm's fundraising activities for JefAM products, including developing relationships with prospective investors, and supporting all new business, fundraising, marketing, and new product development initiatives. He/she will lead presentations to prospective investors independently and/or with senior JefAM distribution team members, in the U.S. With a thorough understanding of the marketplace and competitive landscape, he/she will effectively advocate for the firm articulating JefAM's market position, competitive advantages, and value proposition to existing and prospective investors.

The Consultant Relations professional will assist others on the team or, in some cases, manage all stages of the sales process, including product and market research, organizing target lists of potential new clients, and sales process management. In addition, he/she will manage the closing, new client onboarding, and the compliance review processes in coordination with the JefAM distribution teams and the firm's legal, compliance, accounting, and other groups.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with JefAM's internal teams on client relations and sales-related support. He/she will help respond to requests from existing clients and will arrange and attend periodic portfolio review meetings. In addition, he/she will assist with completing their due diligence processes, including spearheading complete and timely responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Due Diligence Questionnaires (DDQs), and other client, prospect, and consultant requests.

The successful candidate will maintain a detailed knowledge of the investment portfolios in client accounts to facilitate responsiveness to consultant questions and information requests. He/she will also participate in preparing and reviewing quarterly updates to portfolio review and marketing presentation materials.

The successful candidate will manage multiple special projects relating to client service, marketing, and other such areas as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree and/or CFA are preferred; Series 3, 7 and 63 licenses preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and 10-15 years of overall industry experience is required, including much of that experience in an outward-facing role initiating relationships and raising capital from institutional investors with an established investment management firm that has meaningful exposure to alternative asset classes.
  • Successful experience raising capital from institutional investors, preferably across a range of alternative investment strategies.
  • Experience working with investment consultants across the organization, including field consultants, research, and senior management, and the DDQ/RFP questionnaire response process.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills and ability to understand and articulate JefAM's investment pitch.
  • Ability to manage multiple special projects relating to client service, marketing, and other such areas as needed, and effectively prioritize a large set of responsibilities and manage projects from start to finish with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team within a broader organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to make an immediately positive impression.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts, ideas and processes with the presence, maturity and credibility necessary to present effectively to sophisticated institutional investors and internal colleagues.
  • Ability to support and "take ownership" of several projects simultaneously and prioritize between projects through communications with senior team members.
  • Ability to take initiative to move a project forward independent of immediate guidance from senior team members.
  • Ability to coordinate and work in cooperation with other teams across the broader organization.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior team members.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly regulated industry, consequently, knowledge of and compliance with detailed compliance policies and procedures and licensing requirements, parameters, and limitations is critical.
