Responsibilities / Position overview

The Business Development Director is responsible for expanding Lumanity's market footprint within the life sciences sector, focused on the Clinical & Regulatory Consulting operating company, by cultivating high-impact client relationships, originating and advancing qualified opportunities, and positioning Lumanity's specialized capabilities as solutions to client needs.

This role serves as a trusted partner to senior client stakeholders, guides prospects through early engagement phases, and collaborates with key account leads / internal practice leaders, to align the right teams and expertise to each opportunity within Clinical & Regulatory Consulting. Success in this role is demonstrated through measurable pipeline growth, and effective navigation of complex pharmaceutical buying cycles.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • New Business Development: Identifies and develops new business opportunities across Lumanity's Strategy Consulting business.
  • Networking & Relationship Building: Engages in networking and relationship-building to cultivate new connections and strengthen existing client partnerships.
  • Business Development Planning: Contributes to targeted business development plans in collaboration with Commercial Excellence workstream team in Strategy Consulting
  • Consultative Client Partnership: Serves as a trusted partner by understanding client challenges and positioning Lumanity's specialized strategy offerings as effective solutions.
  • Client Stakeholder Management: Maintains regular contact with clients in collaboration with the Strategy practice toย  identify new opportunities.
  • Opportunity Coordination: Collaborates with internal practice leaders to align the right teams and experts to each client opportunity.
  • Pipeline Tracking & Reporting: Tracks, manages, and reports opportunities through the customer relationship management (CRM) system to support visibility and prioritization.
  • Market & Industry Insight: Maintains a deep understanding of market trends, client needs, and industry dynamics to proactively identify high-potential opportunities and share insights that refine business development strategy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (area of study in business, life sciences, or a related discipline).
  • 10+ years of business development experience within the life sciences sector (ideally within healthcare consulting or a related services industry).
  • Working understanding of pharmaceutical operations and procurement processes, including navigating buying cycles and requests for proposal (RFP) processes.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain senior client relationships within the life sciences industry, with a demonstrated track record of generating new business through these connections using a consultative approach and strong communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability to assess client needs, market conditions, and competitive positioning; strong listening skills and ability to lead solution-oriented discussions internally and externally with a collaborative mindset.
