What is a remote property manager?

A remote property manager is a professional who oversees and manages real estate properties from a location other than the property itself, often working from home or a central office. Their responsibilities typically include coordinating maintenance and repairs, handling tenant communications, processing rent payments, and ensuring compliance with property regulations. They use digital tools and platforms to perform their duties efficiently without being physically present at the property. This role is especially common for managing multiple properties or properties located in different regions.

What does a remote property manager do?

As a remote property manager, you handle the day-to-day management of a rental property from a remote or virtual location. Your responsibilities typically include explaining lease terms to a new tenant, coordinating any maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as necessary. You also oversee tax requirements as necessary. You are essentially a landlord with all of the associated duties but are home-based. You may work with a real estate agent to find renters for a site, or you have more than one client and manage several properties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote property manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Property Manager, you need a solid understanding of property management practices, leasing regulations, and financial oversight, usually supported by relevant experience or a real estate/property management certification. Familiarity with property management software (such as AppFolio or Buildium), virtual communication tools, and digital document management systems is essential. Outstanding organizational skills, proactive communication, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for managing tenants and coordinating with contractors remotely. These skills and qualities are important to ensure efficient operations, tenant satisfaction, and effective oversight of properties from a distance.

How does a remote property manager effectively handle maintenance issues without being on-site?

As a Remote Property Manager, handling maintenance issues requires strong communication and reliable local partnerships. You’ll typically coordinate with trusted vendors or contractors in the property's area, leveraging digital tools to receive photos, updates, and invoices. Clear protocols and responsive communication with both tenants and service providers are essential for timely resolutions. Building a network of reliable local contacts and using property management software can streamline the entire process, ensuring issues are addressed efficiently even from a distance.

You will help clients resolve complex Yardi questions, improve business processes, support system configuration, assist with testing and upgrades, and escalate or coordinate more technical issues when needed. You do not need to be a developer, but you should be comfortable working with technical teams, asking good questions, researching unfamiliar issues, and translating business needs into clear system requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and client-facing support resource for the Yardi suite of products - Voyager 8, Voyager 7s, RentCafe, CRM Flex, CRM IQ, ForecastIQ, Affordable Housing and compliance, NY Module, revenue management, Procure to Pay, VendorCafe and VendorShield, PayScan, Utility Billing, BlueMoon, Maintenance IQ, Concierge IQ, and Screening.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex functional and technical issues across Yardi modules, workflows, security, reporting, integrations, and client environments
  • Manage advanced support requests through the ticketing system, including root-cause analysis, documentation of findings, timely resolution, and clear client communication
  • Perform Yardi system administration and configuration tasks, including user setup, security roles, permissions, workflows, module configuration, and governance alignment
  • Work with client stakeholders across accounting, property management, asset management, operations, and IT to understand business needs and translate them into clear requirements for configuration, reporting, integrations, or development work
  • Support Yardi upgrades, plugin updates, testing cycles, data validation, regression testing, and related change-management activities
  • Guide clients on Yardi best practices, system optimization, process improvements, and ways to reduce recurring support issues
  • Coordinate with internal teams, Yardi support, vendors, and third-party partners to escalate complex issues, communicate risks, and drive resolution
  • Maintain documentation, including standard fixes, support procedures, client-specific processes, and knowledge base articles
  • Provide status updates, risks, and recommendations to project management, senior management, and clients as needed
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of multiple client-specific processes, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate, consistent support and issue resolution

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have experience in one or more of these backgrounds:

  • Yardi Voyager system administration
  • Yardi support, help desk, tier 2/tier 3 support, or application support
  • Residential real estate systems or property accounting systems
  • Yardi implementation, onboarding, testing, or upgrade support
  • Business analyst or systems analyst work in a real estate environment
  • Property management or accounting operations experience combined with hands-on Yardi troubleshooting or systems ownership

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Yardi Voyager in a business, support, administrative, implementation, or systems role
  • Ability to troubleshoot Yardi issues beyond basic front-end user questions.
  • Understanding of real estate operations, property management, accounting workflows, or related business processes
  • Experience supporting end users, documenting issues, and communicating solutions clearly
  • Ability to manage multiple support requests and priorities in a client-facing environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues, evaluate options, and make sound recommendations in a fast-paced environment
  • Must demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for learning and professional growth. A strong desire and commitment to continuous learning are essential to this role
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including occasional evening shifts (e.g., 9 PM EST), as needed

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in property onboarding or implementations
  • Experience with Voyager 8 is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support junior staff, fostering a highly effective and productive team environment
  • Experience with 3rd party integrations or other PMS systems (Realpage, Appfolio, Entrata)

In addition to the technical skills and experience listed above, the ideal candidate for this position would be a self-motivated individual who demonstrates strong attention to detail, a passion for problem-solving and customer service, and is comfortable working in ambiguous situations and independently researching and resolving unfamiliar system issues. Must enjoy working in a high-volume, client-facing support environment.

Why Join 33Floors

  • Work with a team focused entirely on Yardi
  • Build deeper expertise across Yardi products, modules, clients, and real estate business models
  • Join a global team supporting clients across multiple markets
  • Grow from support into advanced consulting, implementation, systems administration, data, reporting, or project work
