Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in precast/prestressed concrete design and a solid understanding of structural engineering principles. This position is responsible for performing structural design, analysis, coordination, and quality assurance of precast structures under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer. As a Project Engineer, you will collaborate with project coordinators, drafting staff, and clients to ensure efficient design execution and technical accuracy across all deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties
Under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer, you will:

  • Independently complete the design of precast structures and lateral systems.
  • Check precast shop and erection drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Participate in ongoing standards development and process improvement.
  • Coordinate externally with precast producers and design teams, and internally with the Drafting, Engineering, and BIM departments.
  • Develop and train Design Engineers to strengthen team capabilities.
  • Aid in creating project engineering schedules and manage assigned design deliverables.
  • Prepare and review final submittal packages for client approval.
  • Oversee the initial framing model and collaborate with drafting staff.
  • Participate in all project-related meetings, both internal and external.
  • Perform final model reviews and adjust calculations based on review comments.
  • Review and approve design information and hardware details before submittal.
BIM Responsibilities
  • Add and verify required parameters in the model, including: DESIGN_NUMBER, FINAL_STRENGTH / RELEASE_STRENGTH, WEIGHT_PER_UNIT (default 150).
  • Verify mark numbers for accuracy.
  • Add and manage model elements including reinforcing (strand, rebar, mesh, WWF, c-grid, etc.), lifting/handling devices, corbel assemblies, heel plates, strong backs, and insulation sheets/pins (client-specific).
  • Check for interferences and ensure assemblies are properly created and reinforced.
  • Use modeling tools to set Top as Cast and mark assemblies appropriately.
Secondary Duties
  • Assist the Technical Director in hosting training programs for internal engineering staff.
  • Support process improvement and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the department.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Acceptable alternative degrees: Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3-6 years of experience in precast engineering or a related field.
  • EIT certification required.
  • PE certification preferred.
Software Skills
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • MathCAD
  • Precast design software (Eriksson preferred)
  • Structural analysis or finite element analysis software (RISA 3D preferred)
  • 3D modeling software (Revit preferred)
