What is a Remote Project Architect?

A Remote Project Architect is a licensed architect who plans, designs, and oversees building projects while working from a location outside the traditional office, often from home. They collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors using digital tools and software to manage projects remotely. Their responsibilities include creating architectural drawings, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating all phases of the design and construction process. Remote Project Architects must have strong communication skills and be adept at using collaboration platforms to keep projects on track. This role offers flexibility but also requires a high level of organization and self-motivation.

The Remote Project Architect typically holds an architecture license and leads building design projects, overseeing all phases from concept to completion. The Remote Design Coordinator focuses on supporting design teams, managing schedules, and coordinating project details without requiring licensure. Both roles often work remotely within architecture firms, but their responsibilities and credentials differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Project Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Project Architect, you need a professional degree in architecture, architectural licensure, and solid experience in design development and project management. Proficiency with BIM software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and collaboration platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams is typically required. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help you coordinate with distributed teams and clients. These capabilities ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget, even when working remotely.

How does a Remote Project Architect effectively coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams across different locations?

As a Remote Project Architect, communication and collaboration are central to success. You'll frequently use digital tools like BIM platforms, video conferencing, and project management software to keep all stakeholders aligned and projects moving forward. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and proactive updates help bridge geographic gaps and ensure design intent is maintained. Being proactive about time zone differences and fostering a culture of transparency are key strategies for building strong working relationships remotely.

Our team is highly creative, collaborative, and dedicated to innovative problem solving and design excellence. The complexity and impact of these projects offer rich opportunities for learning, advancement, and long-term career growth.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate on design projects in the critical facilities including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development and documentation

  • Work with contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives

  • Manage client, team and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with engineering and specialty consultants

  • Support communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials

  • Provide design support and documentation during completion and execution of design concepts

  • Lead coordination with building and planning departments to facilitate permit submissions, respond to plan check comments, and secure approvals

  • Oversee the bid process, including issuing bid sets, responding to RFIs, and evaluating contractor proposals in collaboration with clients

  • Manage construction administration activities, including site visits, submittal reviews, RFI responses, and coordination with contractors to ensure design intent is maintained

  • Drive project progress through punch list walkthroughs, final inspections, and closeout documentation to support successful project delivery

  • Mentor junior staff through project work, technical guidance, and day-to-day support

Your Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture, demonstrated with a rigorous portfolio

  • Licensed Architect (US) required

  • Las Vegas licensure preferred

  • LEED accreditation and experience preferred

  • Revit experience required

  • Outstanding knowledge of building codes, standards and building structures

  • Proficient and confident in public speaking, and in moderating large teams of consultants, contractors, and clients

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents

Applications will not be considered without uploaded portfolio/work samples (in PDF form or linked to online portfolio)
