What is a Remote Project Architect?

A Remote Project Architect is a licensed architect who plans, designs, and oversees building projects while working from a location outside the traditional office, often from home. They collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors using digital tools and software to manage projects remotely. Their responsibilities include creating architectural drawings, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating all phases of the design and construction process. Remote Project Architects must have strong communication skills and be adept at using collaboration platforms to keep projects on track. This role offers flexibility but also requires a high level of organization and self-motivation.

The Remote Project Architect typically holds an architecture license and leads building design projects, overseeing all phases from concept to completion. The Remote Design Coordinator focuses on supporting design teams, managing schedules, and coordinating project details without requiring licensure. Both roles often work remotely within architecture firms, but their responsibilities and credentials differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Project Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Project Architect, you need a professional degree in architecture, architectural licensure, and solid experience in design development and project management. Proficiency with BIM software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and collaboration platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams is typically required. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help you coordinate with distributed teams and clients. These capabilities ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget, even when working remotely.

How does a Remote Project Architect effectively coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams across different locations?

As a Remote Project Architect, communication and collaboration are central to success. You'll frequently use digital tools like BIM platforms, video conferencing, and project management software to keep all stakeholders aligned and projects moving forward. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and proactive updates help bridge geographic gaps and ensure design intent is maintained. Being proactive about time zone differences and fostering a culture of transparency are key strategies for building strong working relationships remotely.

Job description

Little is a transdisciplinary design firm driven by one belief: great design has the power to elevate people, organizations, and communities. We're seeking a Project Architect to join our Mixed-Use | Workplace Studio in Charlotte, NC; Charleston, SC; Durham, NC; or Orlando, FL.

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of workplace designโ€”from visionary corporate headquarters and mixed-use destinations to innovative speculative office environments that redefine how people work, connect, and thrive.

At Little, we don't simply deliver projectsโ€”we create places that perform. We challenge conventional thinking, embrace new technologies, and collaborate across disciplines to design environments that anticipate what's next. If you're energized by solving complex design challenges, mentoring others, and seeing your ideas become reality, we'd love to meet you.

Who You Are

You're an architect who believes that thoughtful design and technical excellence go hand in hand. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy leading teams through complex challenges, and are motivated by creating meaningful work that improves the client experience.ย  You're someone who:

  • Has experience delivering Workplace projects including Corporate Headquarters, Regional Offices, Speculative Office, and Mixed-Use developments.
  • Enjoys transforming ambitious ideas into beautifully executed buildings.
  • Brings curiosity, creativity, and sound judgment to every design challenge.
  • Leads through collaboration, inspiring those around you while remaining eager to learn from others.
  • Is passionate about mentoring emerging professionals, particularly in technical design and construction detailing.
  • Communicates clearly through conversations, sketches, presentations, and construction documents.
  • Excels at coordinating multidisciplinary teams and navigating complex project delivery.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of design, planning, spatial relationships, materials, building systems, and detailing.
  • Believes sustainability and high-performance design are fundamental to great architecture.
  • Takes ownership, embraces accountability, and enjoys having fun while doing exceptional work.

What You'll Do

As a Project Architect, you'll play a pivotal role throughout the life of a projectโ€”from early concept through construction and owner occupancy. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the technical development of inspiring Workplace and Mixed-Use projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, engineers, and specialty consultants in a truly integrated design process.
  • Produce high-quality construction documents that reflect design excellence and technical rigor.
  • Guide projects through construction administration while advocating for quality and client success.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.
  • Build lasting relationships with clients and consultants through trust, responsiveness, and leadership.
  • Help advance how we design, document, and deliver projects by embracing innovation and emerging technologies.

Why Little

ย At Little, you'll find more than a job, you'll find a place to grow your career and expand your impact. You'll enjoy:

  • Working alongside nationally recognized Workplace designers and technical leaders.
  • Meaningful responsibility with the autonomy to make decisions and influence project outcomes.
  • Diverse, high-profile projects that challenge and inspire.
  • A collaborative culture built on curiosity, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Opportunities to develop professionally, mentor others, and shape the future of our practice.
  • A firm committed to design excellence, innovation, sustainability, and creating measurable outcomes for our clients.

ย Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or masterโ€™s degree in architecture from an accredited program.
  • 5+ years of professional architectural experience in complex projects.
  • Licensed Architect (required).
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction detailing, codes, and materials.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit is a must.ย  Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Passion for technical excellence, client service, and collaborative design.

ย To be considered for this opportunity, please submit your resumรฉ and portfolio for review.ย
