What is a Flexible Project Architect?

A Flexible Project Architect is a licensed architect who manages and oversees architectural projects while adapting to changing project requirements, schedules, and client needs. This role typically involves coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors, as well as guiding the design and construction process from concept to completion. Flexibility in this position means the architect can work on a variety of project types, respond to shifting priorities, and often balance remote or hybrid work arrangements. The ability to pivot between tasks and collaborate across teams is essential for success in this role.

How does a Flexible Project Architect typically balance multiple projects and shifting client needs?

As a Flexible Project Architect, you'll often manage several projects at different stages, requiring strong organizational and communication skills. You'll regularly coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to adapt project plans based on evolving requirements or timelines. Time management, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving are key, as you'll need to ensure that each project maintains quality and meets deadlines, even as priorities shift. Collaboration is central—expect to participate in design charrettes, client meetings, and interdisciplinary workshops, fostering an environment where innovative solutions can emerge despite changing circumstances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flexible Project Architect, and why are they important?

To excel as a Flexible Project Architect, you need a professional degree in architecture, strong design and project management skills, and relevant licensure (such as an Architect Registration Examination certification). Expertise with architectural software like AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM systems is typically required, along with knowledge of building codes and sustainable design practices. Outstanding communication, adaptability, and leadership skills help you coordinate teams and clients effectively throughout dynamic project phases. These abilities are crucial for delivering innovative, compliant, and client-focused architectural solutions within evolving project requirements.

Job description

Senior Project Architect | Architecture | Jacksonville, FL | Permanent Full-time

Job Description

The Senior Project Architect will lead complex healthcare, civic, higher education, and mixed-use projects that shape communities across the Southeast. As a Senior Project Architect, you will drive design excellence, technical rigor, and coordinated delivery from concept through construction while mentoring a high-performing team in Jacksonville.

Why You Should Apply to be the Senior Project Architect

  • Make a visible impact on landmark, community-centered projects with real public benefit.
  • Advance your career through leadership pathways, continuing education, and hands-on mentorship.
  • Enjoy a flexible hybrid environment with modern tools, strong BIM standards, and robust administrative support.
  • Competitive compensation, profit sharing potential, and comprehensive benefits designed for total wellbeing.

What You Will Do as the Senior Project Architect

  • Lead full-project delivery from planning and programming through CDs, bidding, and CA.
  • Translate client vision into coordinated, code-compliant, buildable solutions that balance design intent, performance, budget, and schedule.
  • Oversee interdisciplinary coordination across architecture, interiors, planning, structural, MEP, technology, sustainability, and cost partners.
  • Serve as the technical authority for detailing, specifications, quality reviews, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage AHJ reviews and approvals; interface directly with clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Champion BIM execution plans, model standards, and clash detection to reduce RFIs and change orders.
  • Mentor emerging professionals; provide redlines, desk critiques, and career-coaching moments.
  • Drive sustainable and evidence-based design strategies that improve outcomes for users.
  • Track scope, fees, hours, and deliverables; proactively forecast and resolve resource bottlenecks.
  • Lead construction administration: submittals, RFIs, site observations, punch lists, and closeout.

What You Bring

  • Professional degree in Architecture; US architectural license preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience with proven success as a project architect on complex, multi-phase work.
  • Portfolio including healthcare, higher education, science/technology, civic, or mixed-use projects.
  • Mastery of building codes, life safety, accessibility, specifications, and construction means/methods.
  • Advanced Revit and BIM coordination experience; familiarity with Bluebeam, Navisworks, and specification tools.
  • Strong client leadership, presentation, and consultant management skills.
  • Clear, concise communication and documentation; calm under deadline with a solutions mindset.
  • Commitment to sustainability, resilience, and performance-driven design.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive base salary with annual bonus eligibility
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Comprehensive health benefits: medical, dental, vision, and HSA/FSA
  • Generous PTO, paid holidays, and paid parental leave in Jacksonville.
  • Licensure and professional development: exam fee reimbursement, AXP/CEU support, memberships, conferences, and formal leadership training.
  • Wellness perks: mental health resources, EAP, commuter benefits, and volunteer time off.
  • Modern tools and robust project operations support so you can focus on architecture.

Why This Role in Jacksonville

  • Work where your designs contribute to a rapidly growing regional hub with strong healthcare, higher ed, and civic pipelines.
  • Collaborate with a nationally recognized, integrated team while enjoying the culture and lifestyle of Jacksonville.
  • Build long-term client relationships and a book of work with recurring, programmatic opportunities.

About You as the Senior Project Architect

  • You balance design excellence with constructability and cost clarity.
  • You turn ambiguity into coordinated action plans with clear milestones and deliverables.
  • You build trust—within teams, with clients, and with contractors—through preparation and follow-through.
  • You elevate others by teaching what you know and modeling best practices every day.
