Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) | Remote (U.S.)

A fast-growing healthcare technology company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Engineering team. This organization develops cloud-based software platforms that improve patient engagement, healthcare communication, and digital experiences for patients, healthcare providers, and life sciences organizations.

As a member of a small, agile engineering team, you will help build and enhance highly scalable web applications used by millions of users nationwide. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full technology stack while contributing to products that have a meaningful impact on healthcare outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineering teams to deliver new features and platform enhancements.
  • Build high-quality software using Agile development methodologies and test-driven development (TDD).
  • Develop across the full technology stack, including backend services, frontend applications, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Deploy, monitor, and maintain production applications running in AWS.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience with MongoDB.
  • Proficiency with JavaScript, CSS, and jQuery.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and/or Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
  • Passion for writing clean, maintainable, production-quality code.
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, Cursor, or similar technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with ZURB Foundation or similar frontend frameworks.
  • Exposure to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, Amazon Bedrock, or other enterprise AI platforms.
