Job description

Salary:

ABOUT GENERATION

At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.

When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed. Three months after completing our program, graduates have a 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings. Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generations global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an exceptional Employability Coach to support learners into job placement for the Generations JobSprint Program.

You will be joining at an exciting time for Generation United States, as we leverage our extensive experience placing learners into jobs to develop and launch a new program offering that can serve a range of jobseekers who require last-mile support to secure employment. The training program is free to learners, part-time, online and mostly asynchronous, with personalized career coaching - by both human coaches (you!) and AI-enabled coaching and feedback tools.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Employability Coach will support learners as they prepare for and conduct their job search, and you will help facilitate their placement into their new role at one of Generations employer partners. The Employability Coach will run both group and one-on-one coaching sessions, utilize an online learning platform and coaching software, and work closely with the Employer Engagement Manager to support placement.

This is a full-time, fixed-term, 6-month position funded through December 2026; continued employment thereafter is contingent upon the availability of funding. While this role is predominantly remote, there may be quarterly domestic travel and/or in-person events. Working hours are primarily from 9 to 5 pm ET; during the training program the Employability Coach will need to be available for 1 evening (ET) group session per week. This role requires regular video presence during working hours; candidates should have a dedicated, distraction-free workspace.

Preference for candidates based in Atlanta, GA or Washington D.C. Annualized salary is dependent on location (range in Atlanta is $55K - $65K, range in DC area is $60K - $70K).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Employability Coach will:

In-Program

  • Become familiar with and follow the course of the program as designed by Generation, in addition to sharing insights based on your expertise
  • Conduct 1:1 coaching conversations to review and provide feedback on learners applications/interview materials and guide them in the creation of an employment essentials toolkit (i.e., CV, LinkedIn profile)
  • Hold weekly group coaching sessions during 3-week program (1 per week during evening ET hours) and office hours as needed to support learners in understanding content and completing program milestones
  • Review learner progress (e.g., attendance, assignments), grading assignments when needed (e.g., CV review), and inputting data in Canvas LMS
  • Use AI Career Coaching tool to further personalize and supplement coaching; track learner usage / progress on coaching tool
  • Instill confidence during the placement process by supporting learners in career trajectory planning
  • Support Employer Engagement Manager to answer placement questions learners may have and to ensure any essential employment-related documentation is complete and up-to-date for each learner
  • Coordinate with Generation team members on learner needs and ongoing data collection, sharing feedback and implementing recommendations to guarantee quality training for our learners
  • Effectively use digital tools such as Teams, Canvas, Slack, and GDrive to perform daily tasks and collaborate in a remote working environment
  • Avoid legal liability issues through thorough adherence to Generation policy, procedure, and guidelines

Transition to Employment

  • Participate in mock interviews with learners and give feedback to help them become better-prepared and more confident
  • Oversee learners transition to full-time employment by closely collaborating with Generation team members to fulfill job recruitment opportunities in line with deadlines
  • Design and deliver events that connect Generation graduates to employers
  • Manage placement activities in partnership with Employer Engagement Manager, including learner usage of Employability Module, scheduling interviews and collecting data on job search and attainment
  • Track unplaced alumni and ensure that they are being notified of relevant job opportunities
  • Ensure consistent communication with learners, graduates, and the Generation team to ensure effective coordination, timely updates, and an overall successful execution of the placement process
