MUST RESIDE IN PITTSBURGH, PA
Job Overview:
Oversee weekly ad process of assigned retailers and work closely with Sales and Promotion Managers, Senior Manager Consumer Marketing, Director of Consumer Marketing, VP of Marketing and Merchandising Departments to achieve sales goals. Position has heavy emphasis on developing locally relevant promotional efforts to drive retail sales. Significant amount of time spent interacting with retail. The position interacts with Vendors and Category Management to develop a weekly promotion plan. The Sales and Promotion Manager coordinates and manages area sales meetings with assigned retail groups. Position is responsible for overseeing cost of goods, gross profit and allowance parameters within weekly ad program for all departments. Effective communication skills required; daily interaction with category management and Marketing Staff. In addition, the position will train and develop Sales Team support staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities
  • Coordinate region led promotional activity for assigned retailers or Corporate Retail.
  • Effectively lead merchandising team in creation of all advertising and extra effort pieces.
  • Grow sales of assigned retailers by creating impactful weekly ads and extra effort programs.
  • Coordinate promotional activity with Consumer Marketing counterparts.
  • Work with Advertising Coordinators on ad layouts and item placement.
  • Responsible for proofing and ensuring accuracy of promotional activity for ads and communication across all categories.
  • Conduct post-promotional review and analysis to determine if promotional requirements were met and if there were problem areas, provide guidance to merchandiser to implement corrective action going forward.
  • Conduct pre-planning meetings with Vendors and Senior Category Merchandisers to construct Trimester Planning Calendar with inserts and overlays.
  • Preplanning meetings with assigned Retail groups to plan and prebook National Expo.
  • Coordinate Trimester area meetings to gain retailer feedback and promote sales driving programs.
  • Gain market intelligence in assigned market areas and gain insight on locally relevant items and promotions.
  • Provide competitive merchandising solutions for retail formats by researching market conditions to determine potential sales of product and retail trends.
  • Manage vendor relationships related to ad/extra effort programming.
  • Responsible for helping to achieve P&L commitment for Consumer Marketing Department budget.
  • Resolve all internal and external customer merchandising requests and concerns while maintaining a high level of professionalism and service.
  • Responsible for at least one key retailer in assigned territory--assist in retailer/vendor planning sessions and participate in monthly conference calls and or meetings.
  • Thorough knowledge of all sales programs; educate account managers to our programs and help sell to assigned retailer(s).
  • Develop and sustain strong working relationships with assigned retailers.
  • Support and implement region initiatives.
  • Support private brand initiatives.
  • Supervise, train, and develop assigned DS staff.
  • Conduct yearly reviews and development plans for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Education/ Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:
  • 3 years minimum industry experience, including retail desired.

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities:
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Aptitude for and interest in financial reporting.
  • Ability to lead without reporting authority.
  • Proficient at an advanced level in Microsoft Office and SV systems.
  • Strong understanding of ABS, landed cost and gross profit.
  • Proven success in a results driven environment.

Remote Role:
  • This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

  • This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.
