What is remote program management?

Remote program management is the practice of overseeing and coordinating multiple related projects or initiatives from a location outside of a traditional office setting, often leveraging digital tools and virtual collaboration platforms. Program managers in remote roles are responsible for aligning project objectives with organizational goals, managing resources, and ensuring effective communication among distributed teams. This approach allows organizations to access talent globally and maintain productivity without the constraints of physical offices. Remote program management requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills to ensure successful program delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote program manager?

To thrive as a Remote Program Manager, you need strong project management expertise, strategic planning abilities, and a background in business or a related field, often supported by a PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Jira, or Trello, and experience with virtual collaboration platforms such as Slack or Zoom, are typically required. Exceptional communication, organizational skills, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for leading distributed teams and managing stakeholders remotely. These competencies ensure efficient program delivery, foster alignment across locations, and drive successful outcomes in a virtual environment.

How does a remote program manager effectively coordinate projects and maintain communication with distributed teams?

Remote Program Managers typically use a combination of project management software, regular virtual meetings, and clear documentation to coordinate tasks across multiple locations and time zones. Effective communication is key, so they often establish structured routines—such as weekly status updates or daily stand-ups—to ensure alignment and quickly address any blockers. Building strong relationships with team members through transparent communication and fostering a culture of accountability are essential to overcoming the unique challenges of remote collaboration.

Job description

About the Role
At Equitable, we help clients secure their financial well-being so they can pursue long and fulfilling lives - a mission we've honed since 1859.
The Advisor & Manager Journey Team builds the programs that help Equitable Advisors develop more effective advisors and stronger field leaders. We're hiring a remote Program Manager to independently lead the planning, coordination, and execution of high-visibility field development experiences - with ownership across timelines, stakeholders, communications, logistics, and continuous improvement. You'll be expected to operate with sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and influence partners across the field and home office. This role requires someone who can translate strategic direction into clear plans, keep stakeholders aligned, and deliver polished, high-quality experiences for advisors and leadership audiences.
This position offers a remote work schedule that allows you to stay fully engaged with your team to provide outstanding, customer - focused service during our core hours (8:00 AM-5:00 PM). Periodic office visits may be requested based on business needs.
What You'll Own
  • Partner with senior leaders and key stakeholders to define program objectives, success measures, audience needs, and learning outcomes aligned to the Advisor Journey.
  • Independently manage multiple programs at once, translating priorities into integrated project plans and keeping timelines, deliverables, risks, and stakeholders aligned.

  • Lead end-to-end program development activities, from upfront planning and curriculum coordination through delivery, feedback analysis, and post-program refinement.
  • Build strong partnerships with field leaders, advisory councils, facilitators, and home office partners to ensure programs reflect field priorities and drive practical application.
  • Contribute to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of advisor growth and leadership-development programming, using participant feedback and business priorities to strengthen outcomes.
  • Own key components of the Elite & Emerging Leaders experience, including curriculum coordination, speaker readiness, participant communications, and execution appropriate for an executive audience.
  • Support field calls and sessions across the portfolio, including the Masters Institute.
  • Shape agendas and session flows that support clear learning objectives, strong engagement, reflection, discussion, and practical application.
  • Prepare internal and external speakers by clarifying objectives, coordinating materials, managing run-of-show expectations, and ensuring each session is aligned and engaging.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for speakers, facilitators, participants, and partners before, during, and after each program.
  • Manage program budgets, expenses, vendor coordination, and execution details to support consistent, high-quality development experiences.

The base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $85,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.
Equitable Pay and Benefits: Equitable Total Rewards Program
What You'll Bring
  • 5 years of experience in program management, learning & development, field enablement, coaching, facilitation, or a related discipline.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to influence without authority, anticipate needs, resolve ambiguity, and keep cross-functional partners aligned.
  • Demonstrated ability to support or facilitate development programs for professional, field, or leadership audiences.
  • Professional presence and communication skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders, field partners, speakers, and participants.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Willingness to travel 5 times per year.

Growth Path
  • This role is designed for someone ready to own meaningful pieces of high-visibility development programs while continuing to grow into broader portfolio leadership. Success in this role will create a path toward larger program ownership, deeper field influence, and expanded responsibility across the Advisor Journey.
