What is remote program management?

Remote program management is the practice of overseeing and coordinating multiple related projects or initiatives from a location outside of a traditional office setting, often leveraging digital tools and virtual collaboration platforms. Program managers in remote roles are responsible for aligning project objectives with organizational goals, managing resources, and ensuring effective communication among distributed teams. This approach allows organizations to access talent globally and maintain productivity without the constraints of physical offices. Remote program management requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills to ensure successful program delivery.

How does a remote program manager effectively coordinate projects and maintain communication with distributed teams?

Remote Program Managers typically use a combination of project management software, regular virtual meetings, and clear documentation to coordinate tasks across multiple locations and time zones. Effective communication is key, so they often establish structured routines—such as weekly status updates or daily stand-ups—to ensure alignment and quickly address any blockers. Building strong relationships with team members through transparent communication and fostering a culture of accountability are essential to overcoming the unique challenges of remote collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote program manager?

To thrive as a Remote Program Manager, you need strong project management expertise, strategic planning abilities, and a background in business or a related field, often supported by a PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Jira, or Trello, and experience with virtual collaboration platforms such as Slack or Zoom, are typically required. Exceptional communication, organizational skills, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for leading distributed teams and managing stakeholders remotely. These competencies ensure efficient program delivery, foster alignment across locations, and drive successful outcomes in a virtual environment.

As a facilities manager, you understand that relationship-building and keen attention to detail is crucial when overseeing the life cycle of a project. As an experienced facilities professional at Booz Allen, you can use your client engagement skills to impact projects that will modernize, streamline, and strengthen Military Construction (MILCON) program execution across critical federal infrastructure programs. We need someone like you who is eager to work on complex projects that'll enhance decision-making, support Congressional engagements, and improve facility investment planning for military stakeholders.
On our team, you'll manage challenging projects for sensitive missions from beginning to end while collaborating with senior leadership. You'll oversee a team to develop creative solutions on mission-critical MILCON program management efforts in federal and defense environments.
In this role, you'll closely impact military infrastructure investment planning and program oversight by developing MILCON program guidance, preparing budget materials, tracking project execution, monitoring design authority progress, and assembling high-visibility Congressional Notification packages. With mentoring, exposure to challenging projects, and opportunities to learn new tools and skills, we focus on growing as a team to make the best solutions for our customers. Work with us as we facilitate projects that impact military construction and infrastructure modernization efforts for the better.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 4+ years of experience supporting MILCON, federal facilities management, or capital investment programs
  • Knowledge of military construction processes, design authority lifecycle, or federal budget analysis
  • Ability to develop program guidance, track project execution, and prepare high-visibility reporting materials
  • Ability to assemble formal government notifications or documentation packages for review and approval
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, real estate, public policy, or finance field

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience assisting with Congressional engagements or formal federal review processes
  • Experience with MCO 11000.5
  • Knowledge of ETMS2 workflows or MILCON-specific program documentation
  • Ability to manage multi-phase project reporting and construct analytic summaries for senior leaders
  • Master's degree in engineering, real estate, public policy, finance, or a related field
  • PMP, CFM, or relevant facilities or acquisition certifications

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
