Location: Lakeland, FL (Remote Available)
Pay Rate: $24.52/hour About the Role PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll SOX Control Analyst to support compliance efforts related to U.S. payroll processes. This role plays a key part in ensuring adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and internal control policies during a transition to new payroll technology. You will collaborate closely with the Human Capital Management Project team, Payroll Operations, Finance, and Internal Audit to assess, document, and strengthen payroll controls. Key Responsibilities * Identify, assess, and document key payroll-related SOX controls
  • Establish and execute control testing processes
  • Develop and maintain control narratives, flowcharts, and matrices for audit support
  • Recommend and implement remediation actions for control deficiencies and monitor progress
  • Provide guidance on payroll system changes to ensure SOX compliance is embedded in system design
  • Support risk assessments and updates to the SOX control framework
  • Deliver training sessions to payroll staff on compliance requirements and documentation standards
Prepare status reports and dashboards for senior leadership and compliance stakeholders Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of payroll operations experience in a U.S.-based organization
  • 3+ years of direct SOX testing experience (Payroll or HRIS preferred)
  • Experience with payroll systems, including:

  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Power Query
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
In-depth knowledge of payroll principles and processes Preferred Qualifications Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
  • Advanced experience with SAP Employee Central systems
  • Familiarity with DCMA, DCAA, internal auditing, and SAP Payroll compliance
  • Previous leadership experience
